De SELYS-LONGCHAMPS (Compt.-rend. Soc. Ent. Belg. 5 Nov. 1870) gives<br />

an outl<strong>in</strong>e of <strong>the</strong> arrangement of <strong>the</strong>se <strong>in</strong>sects adopted by him <strong>in</strong> his forthcom<strong>in</strong>g<br />

" Synopsis des Cordul<strong>in</strong>es." He divides <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong>to two "Legions,"<br />

Cordulia and Epophthalmia. Cordulia comprises three "genera," Cordulia,<br />

Epi<strong>the</strong>ca, and Cordulephya. The genus Cordulia, aga<strong>in</strong>, is separated <strong>in</strong>to two<br />

" subgenera," Hemicordulia, Selys, and Cordulia, Leach (restricted) : Epi<strong>the</strong>ca<br />

comprises three " subgenera," Epi<strong>the</strong>ca, Charp., Oxygastra, Selys, and Gomphomaeromia,<br />

Brauer. Epophthalmia is divided <strong>in</strong>to four " genera,' Idionyx,<br />

Syn<strong>the</strong>mis, Epophthalmia, and AEschnosoma. Epophthalmia is aga<strong>in</strong> divided<br />

<strong>in</strong>to two "subgenera," Epophthalmia and Maeromia. The terms Hemicordulia,<br />

Oxygastra, Cordulephya, and ^Eschnosoma represent new divisions or,<br />

as <strong>the</strong> Recorder prefers to term <strong>the</strong>m, genera. Some new species are <strong>in</strong>dicated,<br />

but not described.<br />

Cordulia metallica. M'Lachlan (Ent. M. M. vii. p. 38) records this species<br />

as occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Inverness-shire, Scotland.<br />

Gomphidee.<br />

Hypopetalia, g. n., M'Lachlan, Tr. E. S. 1870, p. 170. Differs from Petalia<br />

and Phyllopetalia <strong>in</strong> hav<strong>in</strong>g three cellules <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> discoidal triangles of all <strong>the</strong><br />

w<strong>in</strong>gs, and five cellules <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> anal triangle of posterior w<strong>in</strong>gs. Type H.<br />
