The Brighton and Sussex Nat. Hist. Soc. has published a<br />

paper on Diptera and <strong>the</strong>ir w<strong>in</strong>gs, by Mr. Peake.<br />

GIEBEL, Z. ges. Naturw. xxxv. p. 87, remarks on some <strong>in</strong>sects<br />

sent by Dr. Schreiber, and found <strong>in</strong> amber, amongst which he<br />

mentions hav<strong>in</strong>g seen several Diptera, one resembl<strong>in</strong>g a Criorh<strong>in</strong>a,<br />

a Chrysotus, a Porphyrops, and o<strong>the</strong>r Dolichopodidce,<br />

some Cecidomyidce allied to Campylomyza, and some Mycetophi/idce.<br />

WALLENGREN, ffifv. Sv. Acad. 1870, pp. 171-180, notices <strong>the</strong><br />

addition of 128 known species of Diptera to <strong>the</strong> Swedish fauna.<br />

The same author, I. e. p. 76, describes <strong>the</strong> egg and gall of a new species<br />

(C. dorycnii).<br />

.SACKKN, Tr. Amer. Ent. Soc. ii. p. 151, describes <strong>the</strong> very large gall of<br />

a species of Asphondylia found on <strong>the</strong> flower of Budbeekia triloba ?, and gives<br />

some characters of A. helianthi-yhbulus, Walsh.
