two sp<strong>in</strong>ners.^<br />

Lachesis, Savigny, and Storena, Walck. Cepholothorax broadest beh<strong>in</strong>d;<br />

caput full and bluff before; clypeus of considerable height. Eyes 8, small,<br />

nearly of equal size; <strong>in</strong> three transverse l<strong>in</strong>es (2, 2, 4) on fore slope of caput,<br />

form<strong>in</strong>g roughly <strong>the</strong> letter T. Leys strong, relative length 4, 3, 1, 2; tarsi<br />

end with 3 claws. Maxilla; short, strong, greatly enlarged at base, curved<br />

and <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ed towards labium, which is broader at <strong>the</strong> apex than at <strong>the</strong> base,<br />

and has its upper half nearly semicircular.— C. unyuiculata, Natal, Afr., sp. n.,<br />

Enyo, Sav., remarks upon <strong>the</strong>ir aff<strong>in</strong>ities, and forms a family (Enydes) of <strong>the</strong>se<br />

and a third (gen. nov.), Miltia=Enyo, Savigny, ad part. Lachesis reticulata,<br />

sp. n., Spa<strong>in</strong> : Simon, I. c. p.<br />

Miltia, g. n., Simon, R. Z. 1869, p. Cephalothorax oval, much<br />

longer than broad, slightly constricted and truncate at extremities. Caput<br />

def<strong>in</strong>ed by slight <strong>in</strong>dentations. Eyes ra<strong>the</strong>r unequal; <strong>the</strong> 4 foremost form<br />

a straight or slightly curved l<strong>in</strong>e; <strong>the</strong> centrals are round, wider apart, but<br />

not larger than <strong>the</strong> laterals, which are also round; those of <strong>the</strong> second<br />

row, placed immediately above <strong>the</strong> first, are larger, oval, and oblique;<br />

those of <strong>the</strong> third row <strong>in</strong>versely oblique, and convergent beh<strong>in</strong>d. Falces<br />

strong and divergent. Maxillce straight, and not <strong>in</strong>cl<strong>in</strong>ed towards <strong>the</strong><br />

labium. Legs short, but proportioned as <strong>in</strong> Enyo, and totally destitute of<br />

bristles and sp<strong>in</strong>es.—Type Miltia (Enyo) amaranth<strong>in</strong>a, Lucas, Algeria and<br />

Spa<strong>in</strong>.<br />
