Stizus speeiosus, Drury, is stated by Bryant (Am. Ent. ii. p. 87, fig. 57) to<br />

act as a " horse-guard," by play<strong>in</strong>g round horses and catch<strong>in</strong>g flies attracted<br />

to <strong>the</strong>m. An editorial note (ibid.) suggests an error <strong>in</strong> this, as Stizus provisions<br />

its nest with grasshoppers, and h<strong>in</strong>ts that a Bembex, coloured like <strong>the</strong><br />

species above named, is most likely <strong>in</strong>tended by Bryant, as <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>sects of that<br />

genus store <strong>the</strong>ir nests with A<strong>the</strong>ricidce. The habits of S. grandis (Say) are<br />

referred to, ibid. i. p. 8, f. 3.<br />
