RHYNCHOCEPHALIA.<br />

Hatteria is, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> op<strong>in</strong>ion of Prof. Peters, an aberrant form of <strong>the</strong> Agamce,<br />

resembl<strong>in</strong>g Amblyrhynchus <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> membranous symphysis of <strong>the</strong> mandible<br />

and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> apparent absence of copulatory organs. Sitzgsber. Ges. nat.<br />

Freund. Berl. 1870, p. 54. [The Recorder has had an opportunity of show<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to Prof. Peters <strong>the</strong> copulatory organs <strong>in</strong> a less than half-grown example of<br />

Amblyrhynchus, and has found <strong>the</strong>m also s<strong>in</strong>ce <strong>in</strong> a young Oreocephalus. In<br />

<strong>the</strong> adult <strong>the</strong>y must be quite as large as <strong>in</strong> Iguana. Indeed it would have<br />

been a matter of surprise if <strong>the</strong>se organs had been absent <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Galapagos<br />

Lizards, which are truly Iguanoid genera, and most closely allied to Iguana.]<br />
