BOISDUVAL (Pet. Nouv. no. 18) publishes <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g identifications of<br />

Bhopalocera described by Godart:—Nymphalis siva=Romaleosoma arcadiiis,<br />

Fabr.; N. franc<strong>in</strong>a, Goit.,=Rom. sophron, Doubl. & Hew.; N. iscluiris,<br />

Godt., is an Emesis near orphna ; N. eulimene, Godt.,=Neptisjocaste, Feld.<br />

SCUDDER (P. Bost. Soc. xii. pp. 404-408) has published a list of a collection<br />

of butterflies made <strong>in</strong> Alaska by Lieut. W. H. Dall. It only conta<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

13 species.<br />

TRIMEN has published (Tr. E. Soc. Lond. 1870, pp. 341-390) a list of 62<br />

species of butterflies collected by J. H. Bowker <strong>in</strong> Basuto-land, with numerous<br />

notes on known species, and descriptions of several new ones.<br />

KIRBY has published (Tr. Ent. Soc. 1870, pp. 133-152) a resume" of <strong>the</strong><br />

species of Diurnal Lepidoptera described by L<strong>in</strong>naeus, <strong>in</strong> which he po<strong>in</strong>ts out<br />

several corrections of synonymy.<br />

KIRBY notes <strong>the</strong> occurrence of 58 species of butterflies, a list of which is<br />

appended, with<strong>in</strong> three miles of <strong>the</strong> town of Hilden, near Diisseldorf. J. 11.<br />

Several partially gynandromorphous butterflies have been exhibited by<br />

Prof. Westwood at <strong>the</strong> Entomological Society. Proc. E. Soc. 1870, p. 2.<br />

An article on "Imitative Butterflies" is published <strong>in</strong> Amer. Ent. i. pp.<br />

189-193, illustrated with woodcuts of Danais archippus and Limenitis disippus.<br />

H. W. PARKER publishes a list of 13 butterflies found <strong>in</strong> Iowa, <strong>in</strong> addition<br />

to those previously recorded by Scudder <strong>in</strong> Tr. Chic. Ac. (comp. Zool. Kec.<br />

vi. p. 343J. Amer. Ent. ii. p. 175.<br />

Papilionides.<br />

WALLACE has repr<strong>in</strong>ted <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>troductory portion of his paper on <strong>the</strong><br />

Malayan Papilionidee, <strong>in</strong> which he reiterates his previously expressed op<strong>in</strong>ion<br />

that this group is <strong>the</strong> highest among <strong>the</strong> Lepidoptera, and replies to various<br />

arguments which have been brought aga<strong>in</strong>st this view.<br />

Ornithoptera priamus. Kirby remarks on <strong>the</strong> differences between Cramer's<br />

figure and <strong>the</strong> typical figure of this <strong>in</strong>sect: Tr. E. Soc. 1870, p. 134.<br />

Maassen suggests that O. tithonus may be an accidental aberration of one of<br />

<strong>the</strong> subspecies of O. priamus : S. E. Z. 1870.<br />

Papilio. Butler (Cat. Lep. Fabr. pp. 234-259) makes <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g notes<br />

on various species of this genus:—P. phcenon, Koll., is a local form of P.<br />

vertiimnus, (jr.; P. arbates, Cr., = P. anchises, L.; P. iphidamas,
