Telephonus longirostris, Sw., is Le Vaillant's " Tchagra," and <strong>the</strong>refore<br />

synonymous with T. tschagra (Vieill). E. L. Layard, Ibis, 1870, p. 460.<br />

Telephonus anchietce is a new species from Angola. J. V. B. du Bocage,<br />

Jorn. Sc. Lisb. ii. p. 344.<br />

Laniarius monteiri is a new species from Angola, allied to L. icterus, but<br />

with a broad white eyebrow. Both are figured. R. B. Sharpe, P. Z. S. 1870,<br />

p. 148, pi. xiii.<br />

Laniarius sticturus and L. salimce are new species: <strong>the</strong> first, from Zambesia,<br />

resembl<strong>in</strong>g L. major and L. rufiventris, but hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> two outer rectrices<br />

tipped with white; <strong>the</strong> second, from Zanzibar, resembl<strong>in</strong>g L. aff<strong>in</strong>is, but with<br />

<strong>the</strong> outer webs of <strong>the</strong> w<strong>in</strong>g-coverts white. These, as well as L. funebris and<br />

L. orientalis, are figured, and a synopsis of <strong>the</strong> genus given. O. F<strong>in</strong>sch & G.<br />

Dryoscopus thamnophilus (Zool. Rec. vi. p. 77) is believed to be an American<br />

species belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> genus Thamnophilus, and not African at all. lid.<br />

torn. cit. p. 358.<br />

Nicator is a new name for a genus (=Meristes, Bp., 1854, nee Reichenb.<br />

1850), <strong>the</strong> type of which is Lanius chloris, Valenc.; and N. gularis, from <strong>the</strong><br />

Zambesi, is a new species like Laniarius peli, Bp., <strong>the</strong> buff ch<strong>in</strong>, throat, and<br />

sides of <strong>the</strong> head excepted. lid. torn. cit. pp. 359-361.<br />

Rhopophilus is <strong>the</strong> name of a new genus, nearly allied to Laniellus, but not<br />

yet characterized! The type is Drymceca (?) pek<strong>in</strong>ensis [Zool. Rec. v. p. 87],<br />

H. H. Giglioli & T. Salvadori, Ibis, 1870, p. 187.<br />

Ceblepyris major is a new species from Madagascar, allied to C. cana, but<br />

larger and <strong>the</strong> rectrices whiter. R. B. Sharpe, P. Z. S. 1870, p. 389.<br />

Campephaga anderssoni was described as new, but is C. pectoralis, §. Id.<br />

torn. cit. pp. 69,70, pi. iv.; Ibis, 1870, pp. 432,433.<br />

Volvocivora saturata is a new species from Ha<strong>in</strong>an, smaller, darker, and<br />

shorter-w<strong>in</strong>ged than V. lugubris. R. Sw<strong>in</strong>hoe, torn. cit. pp. 242-244.<br />

Clytorhynchus is a new genus of Pachycephal<strong>in</strong>ce, hold<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> same<br />

relation that Xenopirostris does to Laniidce. The type is<br />

Clytorhynchus pachycephaloides, sp. n., from New Caledonia. D. G.<br />
