Magdal<strong>in</strong>us, describ<strong>in</strong>g 23, of which 5 are treated as new. He po<strong>in</strong>ts out<br />

that <strong>the</strong> claws are not, as stated by Lacordaire, simple <strong>in</strong> all <strong>the</strong> spp, M.<br />

carbonarius, aterrimus, and cerasi hav<strong>in</strong>g a small triangular tooth at <strong>the</strong><br />

base; and that <strong>the</strong> tarsi are not 4-jo<strong>in</strong>ted, as <strong>the</strong> claws are let <strong>in</strong>to a cavity<br />

at <strong>the</strong> apex of <strong>the</strong> 4th jo<strong>in</strong>t. The author (p. 31) describes a var. of M. duplicatus,<br />

Germ, under <strong>the</strong> name parallelocollis, from <strong>the</strong> Eastern Pyrenees,<br />

on <strong>the</strong> economy of Gymnetron l<strong>in</strong>arice (Pz.).<br />

PERRIS (L'Ab. vii. p. 36), with regard to Kaltenbach's statement that<br />

Gymnetron antirrh<strong>in</strong>i lives on L<strong>in</strong>aria vulgaris, states that <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>sect now<br />

usually known by that name lives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> capsules of different spp. of Verbascum<br />

(especially V. phlomoides). He considers ei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Paykullian statement of<br />

habitat wrong, or that <strong>the</strong> modern G. antirrh<strong>in</strong>i is erroneously named.
