Cryptides.<br />

Cryptus. TSCHEK (Verhandl. zool.-bot. Ges. Wien, xx. p. Ill et seq.)<br />

refers to <strong>the</strong> species (5 <strong>in</strong> number, of which he describes 2 as new) confused<br />

under <strong>the</strong> name of C. obseurus (Grav.) : C. sponsor (Ratz. nee Grav, F.) 9. =<br />

<strong>in</strong>cisus, p. 405 : 5 of C. nubeculatus (Grav.) is described, p. 408 : both sexes<br />

of C. migrator (Gr.) are described, p. 410, note: <strong>the</strong> C. <strong>in</strong>cubitor of Gravenhorst<br />

and of Ratzeburg cannot be referred to <strong>the</strong> same species, accord<strong>in</strong>g<br />

to <strong>the</strong> statement of differences at p. 414; pygoleuenis (Grav.), vax.=<strong>in</strong>cubito,<br />

(Grav.) cf > and is described p. 415 : <strong>the</strong> females of 15 species are tabulated,<br />

p. 425 : observations are made at some length (pp. 426-428) upon C. titillator<br />

(Gr.), result<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> op<strong>in</strong>ion that <strong>the</strong> cf of that species is identical with<br />

<strong>the</strong> male of C. analis (Gr, Tschek), <strong>in</strong> which case <strong>the</strong> name titiUator must<br />

attach to <strong>the</strong> latter <strong>in</strong>sect, and analis be altoge<strong>the</strong>r dropped, as <strong>the</strong> cf of<br />

Gravenhorst's analis = peregr<strong>in</strong>ator (L.) : 9. of C. conjungens, Tschek, is described<br />

from Rzeszow, p. 429.<br />

Cryptus. HOLMGREN (I. c. p. 396) recharacterizes this genus as restricted<br />

by hi<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Cocoons of Cryptus extrematis, Oresson (=nuncius, Say), a parasite on<br />

Attacus cecropia, are figured <strong>in</strong> Amer. Ent. ii. f. 67.<br />

Cryptus junceus, Cresson, is recorded as a parasite on "mud-daubers''<br />

(Ayenia, Schdte.), and as hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> smell of a Bombus : Walsh & Riley,<br />

Amer. Ent. i. p. 137, fig. 109.<br />

RITSEMA (Tijdschr. Ent. 1870, p. 120) records hav<strong>in</strong>g bred a probably undescribed<br />

sp. of Phygadeuon from <strong>the</strong> larva of Enoicyla pusilla, <strong>the</strong> terrestrial<br />

Phryganidon, upon which it is parasitic.<br />

WALSH (Canad. Ent. ii. p. 10) <strong>in</strong>fers, from various <strong>in</strong>dividuals bred by<br />

him, that Pezomachus is a degraded Hemiteles. For observations on <strong>the</strong><br />

American species of Hemiteles by this author, cf. ibid. pp. 9-12, 31-33.<br />

Both sexes of (Edemopsis rogenhoferi, Tschek, are described, from Bautzen<br />

and Styria, and <strong>the</strong> genus is recharacterized: Tschek, I. e. pp. 429,430.<br />

Goryphus, g. n, Holmgr. I. c. p. 398. Characterized at <strong>the</strong> expense of<br />

Cryptus, as usually received [on apparently <strong>the</strong> most trifl<strong>in</strong>g grounds]. The<br />

author (p. 400) <strong>in</strong>dicates a subgenus Psacus, dist<strong>in</strong>guished by its metathorax<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g rugulose, with three areas ra<strong>the</strong>r unevenly sculptured. Sp.: G. basilaris,<br />
