ROPER Blayney Tenison Roper <strong>of</strong> Heath Vale, Lower Bourne, Farnham, (1853-1938), was son <strong>of</strong> Blayney Tenison Roper, (1811-<br />

86), and descended from the 8 th Baron Teynham, (d.1723).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1, Per fess Azure and Or a pale counterchanged and three bucks' heads erased <strong>of</strong> the second (Roper); 2, Vert a<br />

chevron between three eagles displayed Or crowned Gules (Fineux); 3, Or on a fess Gules three fleurs-de-lys <strong>of</strong> the field (Lennard); 4, Azure<br />

three lions rampant Or (Fiennes); 5, Gules three escallops Or (Dacre); 6, Azure three chevronels interlaced in base Or a chief <strong>of</strong> the last (Fitz-<br />

ROSE Sir William Rose, 2 nd Bart., <strong>of</strong> Montreal, Canada, (1846-1902), was <strong>of</strong> Moor Park, Farnham; his son Sir Cyril Stanley Rose,<br />

3 rd Bart., (1874-1915), was <strong>of</strong> Rock House, Farnham; and his son Sir Francis Cyril Rose, 4 th Bart., (b.1909), was at one time <strong>of</strong> 11 Denmark<br />

Avenue, Wimbledon.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or a boar's head couped Gules armed and langued Azure between three water bougets Sable on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second three<br />

maple leaves <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

Burke also gives this crest for Rutland, or Roushland, <strong>of</strong> Mitcham, qv, as does Fairbairn. (FBC)<br />

ROUND Francis Richard Round, CMG, MA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> Sutton Court, (1845-1920), Clerk in the Colonial Office, was father <strong>of</strong><br />

Douglas Gray Round, <strong>of</strong> Cottage Wood, Walton-on-Thames, architect, (1882-1936).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a chevron cotised Sable three pallets Or each charged with an annulet <strong>of</strong> the second.<br />

Crest: A lion couchant Argent charged on the body with three annulets interlaced Sable holding in the mouth a sword in bend point<br />

downwards Proper pommel and hilt Or.<br />

ROUPELL Captain Francis Leyland Lyster Fyler Roupell, MC, RA, <strong>of</strong> Little Chartham, Shalford, (b.1890), Brigadier George Roland<br />

Patrick Roupell, VC, CB, DL, East <strong>Surrey</strong> Regiment, <strong>of</strong> Little Chartham, (1892-1974) and Charles Frederick de Coëtlogon Roupell, <strong>of</strong> Britain's<br />

Farm, West Horsley, (b.1897), were sons <strong>of</strong> Colonel Francis Frederick Fyle Roupell <strong>of</strong> Charlton, Kent, (1848-1916).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a mount Vert an African holding in the dexter hand a bow and in the sinister three arrows Proper in chief two<br />

mullets Azure.<br />

Crest: A demi African holding in the dexter hand a bow and in the sinister three arrows all Proper.<br />

ROUS <strong>of</strong> Polesden in Great Bookham, from 1630.<br />

From the monument in Fetcham Church to Anthony Rous, (d.Jan 22, 1631), Clerk <strong>of</strong> the Pipe.<br />

Some <strong>of</strong> the shields on this monument suggest the field was Gules and the eagle Argent, but quarter Argent a chevron between three waterbougets<br />

Sable, for Hill, which shows Anthony was one <strong>of</strong> the Rous family <strong>of</strong> Halton, Cornwall.<br />
