Margaret's, Canterbury, (1708-74), a cadet <strong>of</strong> Leigh <strong>of</strong> West Hall, High Leigh, Cheshire, married Jane, daughter <strong>of</strong> J Barnes and widow <strong>of</strong><br />
Thomas Allett, brother <strong>of</strong> John Allett, <strong>of</strong> Leatherlake House, Runnymede. Their son the Rev. Egerton Leigh, Rector and Patron <strong>of</strong> Murston and<br />
Vicar <strong>of</strong> Tilmanstone, (1735-88), had issue, a younger son Egerton Piers Leigh, <strong>of</strong> Chertsey Abbey, also <strong>of</strong> Langley Place, Buckinghamshire, (d.<br />
unmarried 1832), an elder son the Rev. James Allett Leigh, MA, <strong>of</strong> Leatherlake House, Vicar <strong>of</strong> Tollesbury, Essex, (1770-1857).<br />
He was father <strong>of</strong> James Allett Leigh, <strong>of</strong> Leatherlake House, (b.1799). (BLG4)<br />

LEIGH Sir John Leigh, 1 st Bart., <strong>of</strong> Altrincham, Chester, JP, (1884-1959), created Baronet, 1918, was <strong>of</strong> Witley Park, Godalming.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a cross engrailed quadrant gules a garb Or between in chief two roses <strong>of</strong> the second barbed and seeded Proper.<br />
Crest: A cubit arm vested Gules cuffed Argent grasping a staff in bend sinister Proper pendent therefrom a banner <strong>of</strong> the second<br />
charged with a cross couped <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

LEIGH Earl <strong>of</strong> Chichester. Sir Francis Leigh, KB, (d.1625), acquired the manor <strong>of</strong> Apps, in Walton-on-Thames, 1602. It<br />
descended to his son Sir Francis Leigh, 1 st and last Earl <strong>of</strong> Chichester, (dspm 1653), and passed with the latter's daughter and coheir Elizabeth to<br />
her husband Thomas Wriothesley, Earl <strong>of</strong> Southampton, qv. (VCHS iii 473)<br />

LEIGH-CLARE Gerald Leigh Leigh-Clare <strong>of</strong> Wayside, Beacon Way, Banstead, (b.1881), son <strong>of</strong> Octavius Leigh Leigh-Clare, BA, <strong>of</strong> Hindley<br />
Cottage, East Sheen, barrister-at-law, Vice-Chancellor <strong>of</strong> the <strong>County</strong> Palatine <strong>of</strong> Lancaster, (b.1841).<br />

Diéllamont and Saval, Jersey, (1754-90), was father <strong>of</strong> Major-General Arthur Reid Lempriere, JP, RE, <strong>of</strong> Collingwood Mount, Camberley,<br />
(1835-1927), and great grandfather <strong>of</strong> George Rollo O'Connell Lempriere <strong>of</strong> Redwood Cottage, Westerham Road, Limpsfield, (b.1904).<br />
