SURREY COATS OF ARMS<br />
McALPINE Sir Robert McAlpine, 1 st Bart., JP, <strong>of</strong> Knott Park, (1847-1934), head <strong>of</strong> the firm <strong>of</strong> Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons, civil<br />
engineering contractors, was created Baronet, 1918. His grandson Sir Alfred Robert McAlpine, 3 rd Bart., (d. unmarried 1968), was <strong>of</strong> Felcourt,<br />
Lingfield, and <strong>of</strong> Malvenhyst, Woldingham. The present holder <strong>of</strong> the title is the latter's cousin, Sir Thomas George Bishop McAlpine, 4 th Bart.,<br />
(b.1901), son <strong>of</strong> William Hepburn McAlpine, <strong>of</strong> Tor Point, St. George's Hill Weybridge, (1871-1951).<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Per chevron Vert and Or two chevronels the one in chief Argent the other in base Azure.<br />
Crest: A cubit arm grasping a chaplet <strong>of</strong> pines fructed all Proper.<br />

MACARTNEY Earl <strong>of</strong> Macartney. George Macartney, Earl Macartney, (1737-1806), who bought Parkhurst in Abinger, 1786 and<br />
sold it 1795, was created Baron Macartney <strong>of</strong> Parkhurst and <strong>of</strong> Auchinleck in the Stewartry <strong>of</strong> Kirkcudbright, 1796.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Or a stag trippant Gules attired Argent a bordure <strong>of</strong> the second.<br />
Crest: A naked arm couped below the elbow holding a branch <strong>of</strong> roses all Proper.<br />
Supporters: Dexter, A horse Argent ho<strong>of</strong>ed Or bridled and charged on the body with three roses Gules leaved Vert seeded Gold; Sinister,<br />
a buck Argent attired and unguled Or collared chequy <strong>of</strong> the first and Azure charged on the body with three trefoils slipped Vert and holding in<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or a buck trippant Gules attired and unguled Argent a bordure <strong>of</strong> the second charged with eight roses <strong>of</strong> the third.<br />

MacCARTIE Gerald de Courcy MacCartie <strong>of</strong> Shrub Hill, Dorking, Captain, 4 th Battalion Princess <strong>of</strong> Wales' Own Yorkshire Regiment,<br />
(b.1867), 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Joseph McCarty, Vicar <strong>of</strong> Witton, Yorkshire, <strong>of</strong> the family <strong>of</strong> Carrignavar, Co. Cork, who changed his name to<br />
MacCartie.<br />

MACDONALD Sir Alexander Macdonald, 1 st Bart., <strong>of</strong> East Sheen, (d.1826), Chief Baron <strong>of</strong> the Court <strong>of</strong> Exchequer, 4 th son <strong>of</strong> Sir Alexander<br />
Macdonald, 7 th Bart., (1711-46), was created Baronet, 1813. The title became extinct on the death, (sp 1919), <strong>of</strong> Sir Archibald John Macdonald,<br />
4 th and last Bart.<br />
