RÜCKER Daniel Henry Rücker <strong>of</strong> Errington, Clapham Park, (1815-90), was father <strong>of</strong> Reginald Wynn Rücker <strong>of</strong> Kenilworth Court,<br />

Putney, (b.1885).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Ermine on a rock a female figure in pr<strong>of</strong>ile Proper vested Vert crined Or holding in the dexter hand a dove close looking to<br />

the sinister also Proper and supporting with the sinister hand an anchor erect Sable.<br />

Crest: Upon a bezant a female figure affronté Proper vested from the waist Vert crined Or holding in the dexter hand a dove as in<br />

the arms between two wings also Or.<br />

RUDKIN Major Hugh Robert Ernest Rudkin, OBE, 18 th Royal Irish Regiment, <strong>of</strong> Brook House, Compton, (b.1877), and George Drury<br />

Rudkin CIE, OBE, BA (Oxon), ICS, <strong>of</strong> Ryde's Hill, Guildford, (1879-1929), were sons <strong>of</strong> George Mark Archibald Rudkin, MRCS, LRCP, <strong>of</strong><br />

Teignmouth, Devon, (1847-1913).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent five barrulets Azure a bend Gules charged in chief with a bezant.<br />

Crest: A cubit arm in armour erect Proper the hand also Proper grasping a baton Azure.<br />

RUMBOLD Sir Horace Algernon Fraser Rumbold, KCMG, CIE, BA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> Shortwoods, West Clandon, Deputy Under-Secretary <strong>of</strong><br />

State, Commonwealth Relations Office, 1958-66, (b.1906), eldest son <strong>of</strong> Colonel William Edwin Rumbold, CMG, RA, (1870-1947), and<br />

grandson <strong>of</strong> the Rt. Hon. Sir Horace Rumbold, 8 th Bart., PC, GCB, GCMG, (1829-1913). Of the same family, Thomas Arthur Rumbold,<br />

(b.1882), son <strong>of</strong> Thomas Henry Rumbold, (1835-82), and descended from Sir Thomas Rumbold, 1 st Bart., (1736-91), was at one time <strong>of</strong> 9 Drax<br />

Avenue, Wimbledon.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or on a chevron Gules three cinquefoils <strong>of</strong> the field a canton <strong>of</strong> the second charged with a leopard's face Erminois.<br />

Crest: A demi lion rampant Erminois.<br />

On the monument to the former in Wimbledon Church the above crest appears with a somewhat simpler coat: Gules on a fess Or between three<br />

RUSHBROOKE Count William Henry Rushbrooke, DL, JP, <strong>of</strong> Cosford, Thursley, (1840-1926), was father <strong>of</strong> Colonel William Philip Henry<br />

Rushbrooke, DSO, <strong>of</strong> Cosford, (1888-1951).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Sable a fess between three roses Or. (BLG17; FD7)<br />

RUSKIN John James Ruskin, <strong>of</strong> Herne Hill, wine merchant, (1786-1864), was father <strong>of</strong> John Ruskin, the famous writer, (1819-1900),<br />

later <strong>of</strong> Brantwood, Coniston, Cumberland, who was brought up as a child at Herne Hill, later moving to a house opposite Ruskin Park,<br />

Camberwell, which commemorates him; he was at school at Camberwell. In 1835, Mr Ruskin senior obtained a grant * <strong>of</strong> the following.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Sable on a chevron between six spear heads Argent three cross crosslets fitché Gules.<br />

Crest: A boar's head couped at the neck Gules charged with two cross crosslets fitché Or.<br />

Motto: Age quod agis.<br />

West Riding Yorkshire, (1836-1906), had issue, amongst others, a 2 nd son Sir Charles Lennox Somerville Russell, ICS, <strong>of</strong> Crooksbury Hurst,<br />

Runfold, (1872-1960).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent a lion rampant Sable armed and langued Gules on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second two roses <strong>of</strong> the field barbed and seeded<br />

Proper.<br />

Crest: A goat statant Argent armed and unguled Or holding in the mouth a rose also Argent leaved slipped and seeded Proper<br />

Badge: A pineapple Or.<br />
