LOCOCK Sir Charles Bird Locock, 3 rd Bart., <strong>of</strong> Blythswood, West Byfleet, (1878-1965), succeeded his father Sir Charles Brodie<br />

Locock, 2 nd Bart., MA, barrister-at-law, on the latter's death, 1890. Of the same family, Charles Dealtry Loccock, BA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> 168 Upper<br />

Richmond Road, Putney, (1862-1946), was son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Alfred Henry Locock, MA (Cantab), (1829-1922), Vicar <strong>of</strong> Lemsford, Hertfordshire,<br />

and grandson <strong>of</strong> Sir Charles Locock, 1 st Bart., (1799-1875); and Sir Guy Harold Locock, CMG, <strong>of</strong> 48 Murray Road, Wimbledon Common,<br />

(1883-1958), was younger son <strong>of</strong> Colonel Herbert Locock, CB, RE, (1837-1910), and also grandson <strong>of</strong> the 1 st Bart.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure a gauntlet Or in chief three mullets Argent.<br />

Crest: On a mount Vert a cock Argent gutté-de-sang the dexter foot resting on a gauntlet Or.<br />

Gloucester, (1829-88), was Chief Inspector <strong>of</strong> Taxes, England. His grandson, Peter Stanford London, MB, BS, LRCP (London), FRCS, <strong>of</strong> 1<br />

Queen's Avenue, West Byfleet, (b.1922), 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> Cyril Stanford, London, <strong>of</strong> Mejillones, Chile, (1887-1930).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure five lozenges conjoined in bend between two crosses pattée fitché Or.<br />

Crest: A lozenge chequy Argent and Sable between two wings Or.<br />

LONG <strong>of</strong> Hampton Lodge. Charles Long <strong>of</strong> Longville, Jamaica, and <strong>of</strong> Hurts Hall, Suffolk, (1679-1723), married, (i),<br />

1699, Amy, (d.1702), daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Nicholas Lawes, Governor <strong>of</strong> Jamaica, by whom he had issue, Samuel, <strong>of</strong> whom below; and (ii), 1703,<br />

Elizabeth, (d.1724), widow <strong>of</strong> Sir Thomas Modiford, 5 th Bart., and daughter and heir <strong>of</strong> Sir William Beeston, Governor <strong>of</strong> Jamaica, by whom he<br />

had issue a youngest son Beeston, (see next entry). The eldest son Samuel Long, (1700-57), Keeper <strong>of</strong> the King's Palace at Newmarket, married<br />

Mary, 2 nd daughter <strong>of</strong> Bartholomew Tate <strong>of</strong> Delapré Abbey, Northamptonshire, (by Mary, daughter and coheir <strong>of</strong> Edward Noel), and coheir with<br />

her sister Catharine to the baronies <strong>of</strong> Zouche <strong>of</strong> Harringworth, St. Maur, and Lovel <strong>of</strong> Cary. Their 4 th son Edward Long, (1734-1813), Chief<br />

Judge <strong>of</strong> the Admiralty Court, Jamaica, was father <strong>of</strong> Edward Beeston Long <strong>of</strong> Hampton, (d.1825), whose son Henry Lawes Long, JP, <strong>of</strong><br />

Hampton Lodge, was father <strong>of</strong> Henry Charles Dudley Long <strong>of</strong> Hampton Lodge and <strong>of</strong> East Barnet, Hertfordshire, (dsp 1870).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1, Sable a lion passant Argent holding in the dexter paw a cross crosslet fitché Or on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second three<br />

cross crosslets <strong>of</strong> the field (Long); 2, Per fess Or and Gules a pale counterchanged and three Cornish choughs Proper (Tate); 3, Gules ten bezants<br />

and a canton Ermine (Zouche); 4, Argent two chevronels Gules in chief a label <strong>of</strong> five points Azure (St. Maur).<br />

LONG <strong>of</strong> Carshalton Park. Beeston Long <strong>of</strong> Carshalton Park, (1710-85), youngest son <strong>of</strong> Charles Long <strong>of</strong> Longville,<br />

Jamaica, and <strong>of</strong> Hurts Hall, Suffolk, (see preceding entry), had issue, amongst others, an eldest son Samuel Long <strong>of</strong> Carshalton Park, (1746-<br />

1807), High Sheriff <strong>of</strong> <strong>Surrey</strong>, 1790, and a 3 rd son Beeston Long <strong>of</strong> Combe House, (d.1820), Director and Governor <strong>of</strong> the Bank <strong>of</strong> England.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Sable a lion passant Argent holding in the dexter paw a cross crosslet fitché Or on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second three cross crosslets<br />

<strong>of</strong> the field.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Sable a lion rampant Argent between four crosses botonné two in chief and as many in base Or two flaunches <strong>of</strong> the last each<br />

charged with three like crosses in pale <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

Crest: A lion's head couped per fess Argent and Or charged with two cross crosslets palewise Sable and holding in the mouth a<br />

dexter hand erased Gules.<br />

RN, <strong>of</strong> The Grove, Brockdish, Norfolk, (b.1900), and grandson <strong>of</strong> the Rev. John Charles Longe, MA (Cantab), <strong>of</strong> Spixworth Park, Norfolk,<br />

(1859-1939).<br />

LONGESPEE William Longespée, son <strong>of</strong> the Earl <strong>of</strong> Salisbury, acquired the manor <strong>of</strong> Shalford from the time <strong>of</strong> Henry III by marriage to<br />

Idonea, daughter <strong>of</strong> Richard de Canwill, and granted it to John, son <strong>of</strong> Ge<strong>of</strong>frey, Earl <strong>of</strong> Essex.<br />
