TRENCH post CHENEVIX-TRENCH Commander Godfrey Maxwell Chenevix-Trench, DSC, RN, <strong>of</strong> Cross Gates, Bell Road,<br />
Haslemere, is 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> Charles Godfrey Chenevix-Trench, CIE, BA (Oxon), ICS, (1877-1964), and is descended from Frederic Trench,<br />
(d.1669) who, settling at Garbally, Co. Galway, was ancestor <strong>of</strong> the Barons Ashtown. From him descended also Colonel Arthur Henry Chenevix<br />
Trench, CIE, RE, <strong>of</strong> Sandilands, West Byfleet, (1884-1968), father <strong>of</strong> Major Reginald Allan Chenevix Trench, RE, <strong>of</strong> Abbotsford, West Byfleet,<br />
(b.1920), the Rev. George Frederick Trench, MA (Cantab), <strong>of</strong> 42 Holmbush Road, Putney, (1881-1966), 2 nd son <strong>of</strong> John Townshend Trench,<br />
(1834-1909); and Colonel Charles Chenevix Trench, RA, <strong>of</strong> Broomfield, Camberley, (1839-1933), 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> the Most Rev. and Rt. Hon.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent a lion passant Gules between three fleurs-de-lys Azure on a chief <strong>of</strong> the last a sun in splendour Or.<br />
Crest: A dexter arm in armour embowed the hand grasping a sword, (or scimitar), all Proper.<br />

and Viscount Trenchard, (1873-1956), was <strong>of</strong> The King's House, Burhill, Walton-on-Thames.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Per pale Argent and Azure in the first three pallets Sable all within a bordure <strong>of</strong> the last.<br />
Crest: A cubit arm erect vested Azure cuffed Argent holding in the hand a cinquedea sword both Proper.<br />
Supporters: On either side an eagle Gules the dexter charged with a thistle leaved and slipped and the sinister with a truncheon Or.<br />

TREVELYAN The Rev. George Tevelyan, Rector <strong>of</strong> Malden cum Chessington, (1803-50), was 2 nd son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Walter Trevelyan, Vicar<br />
<strong>of</strong> Henbury and Rector <strong>of</strong> Nettlecombe, Somerset, (1763-1830), and grandson <strong>of</strong> Sir John Trevelyan, 4 th Bart., <strong>of</strong> Nettlecombe, (1735-1828),<br />
from whom descended also the Rev. George Philip Tevelyan, MA (Cantab), (1858-1937), Vicar <strong>of</strong> St. Alban's, Hindhead, 1908-11.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a demi horse Argent ho<strong>of</strong>ed and maned Or issuing out <strong>of</strong> water in base Proper.<br />
Crest: Two arms counter-embowed Proper habited Azure holding in the hands a bezant surmounted by a sea parrot.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent a chevron between three roses Gules barbed Vert seeded Or on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second a lion passant guardant between<br />
two bibles paleways Or clasped and garnished <strong>of</strong> the last clasps to the dexter.<br />
The arms are on the tomb <strong>of</strong> Archbishop John Whitgift, qv, in the church <strong>of</strong> St. John the Baptist, Croydon.<br />
TRIPP The Rev. James Tripp, BA (Cantab), (1787-1879), son <strong>of</strong> James Upton Tripp <strong>of</strong> Petworth, Sussex, was Curate <strong>of</strong> Alfold,<br />
1810-12; he was later Rector <strong>of</strong> Upper Waltham, Sussex and <strong>of</strong> Kirkby Overblow and Sp<strong>of</strong>forth, Yorkshire.<br />
