RUTTLEDGE David Knox Ruttledge, JP, <strong>of</strong> Belvedere, 86 Vineyard Hill, Wimbledon Park, (b.1866), eldest son <strong>of</strong> David Rutledge, JP,<br />
(Galway).<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent a stag trippant Proper on a chief engrailed Azure three estoiles Or.<br />
Crest: An oak tree Proper pendent from a dexter branch there<strong>of</strong> by a riband Azure an escutcheon Or.<br />
Motto: Verax atque probus. (FD7)<br />
RYCROFT <strong>of</strong> Calton, Yorkshire, <strong>of</strong> Farnham, and now, (1938), <strong>of</strong> Dummer House in Basingstoke, Hampshire, Baronet, Jan 22, 1781.<br />
Descended from John Nelson <strong>of</strong> Calton, whose son, the Rev. Richard Nelson, (d.1786), Rector <strong>of</strong> Penshurst, Kent, took the name <strong>of</strong> Rycr<strong>of</strong>t, Dec<br />
22, 1758 and was created a baronet.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Per bend Or and Gules three griffin heads erased counterchanged on a chief Argent a fleur-de-lys between two roses <strong>of</strong> the<br />
second.<br />
Crest: A griffin head erased Or. (Gen. Arm.; MB iii 163)<br />
The arms have more recently been matriculated as follows: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Per bend Or and Azure three griffin heads erased counterchanged,<br />
on a chief Ermine a fleur-de-lys between two roses Gules, for Rycr<strong>of</strong>t; 2 and 3, Per pale Or and Sable a chevron between three fleur-de-lys<br />
counterchanged, for Nelson.<br />
Crest: A griffin head erased per bend Or and Azure charged with two fleur-de-lys counterchanged.<br />

Of the same family, Colonel Charles Henry Dudley Ryder, CB, CIE, DSO, FRGS, RE, <strong>of</strong> Stockwood, Camberley, (1868-1945), was son <strong>of</strong><br />
Lieutenant-Colonel Spencer Charles Dudley Ryder, and descended from the 1 st Baron Harrowby, (1735-1803); and Lieutenant-Colonel Hugh<br />
Granville Leveson Dudley Ryder, TD, <strong>of</strong> The White House, Fernhurst, (b.1900), 2 nd son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Algernon Charles Dudley Ryder, MA<br />
(Cantab), (1847-1943), and descended from the 1 st Earl <strong>of</strong> Harrowby, (1762-1847).<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Azure three crescents Or on each an ermine spot Sable (Ryder); 2 and 3, Gules three lapwings Or within a<br />
bordure Argent (Terrick).<br />
Crest: Out <strong>of</strong> a mural coronet Or a dragon's head Argent on the neck an ermine spot Sable.<br />
