SURREY COATS OF ARMS<br />

MONEY Robert Jarratt Money, MICE, <strong>of</strong> North Cave, Pembroke Road, Woking, (b.1862), and the Rev. David Wasbourne Money, <strong>of</strong><br />

St. John's Vicarage, Woking, (b.1878), were sons <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Charles Forbes Septimus Money, Hon. Canon <strong>of</strong> Rochester, {Kent}, (1817-93).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or on a pile Azure ten bezants, four, three, two and one, on a chief Ermine a lion passant <strong>of</strong> the second.<br />

Crest: A bezant between two wings Azure each wing semé-de-lys Or.<br />

MONEY-COUTTS <strong>of</strong> Ancote, Weybridge, and <strong>of</strong> Stodham Park, Hampshire. Exemplified to Mrs Clara Maria Money-Coutts, <strong>of</strong><br />

Stodham Park, widow <strong>of</strong> the Rev. James Drummond Money, Rector <strong>of</strong> Sternfield, Suffolk and daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Francis Burdett, 5 th Bart., <strong>of</strong><br />

Foremark, by Sophia his wife, daughter and coheir <strong>of</strong> Thomas Coutts, banker, and to her son Francis Burdett Money-Coutts <strong>of</strong> Ancote, upon<br />

their assuming by royal licence, 1880, the additional surname <strong>of</strong> Coutts in compliance with the will <strong>of</strong> Harriet, Duchess <strong>of</strong> St. Albans, widow <strong>of</strong><br />

the said Thomas Coutts.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Argent a stag's head erased Gules between the attires a pheon Azure all with a bordure embattled <strong>of</strong> the<br />

last charged with four buckles Or (Coutts); 2 and 3, Or on a pile Azure ten bezants, four, three, two and one (Money).<br />

Crests: 1, A man from the middle shooting an arrow from a bow all Proper (Coutts); 2, A bezant between two wings Azure each<br />

MONIER-WILLIAMS Randall Herbert Monier-Williams, BA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> The Little White House, Golf Club Road, Hook Heath,<br />

{Woking}, is Clerk and Solicitor to the Worshipful Company <strong>of</strong> Tallow Chandlers <strong>of</strong> the City <strong>of</strong> London.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a chevron Ermine between in chief two Saracens' heads erased Proper and in base a fleur-de-lys Or.<br />

Crest: A stag's head cabossed Gules attired Or Between two fleurs-de-lys <strong>of</strong> the last.<br />

MONRO <strong>of</strong> Ewell Castle. Lieutenant-General William Hector Monro, Governor <strong>of</strong> Trinidad, married, 1796, Philadelphia Bower<br />

and was father <strong>of</strong> Hector William Bower Monro <strong>of</strong> Ewell Castle, also <strong>of</strong> Edmondsham, Dorset, (1796-1842). His son, Captain Hector Monro,<br />

DL, JP, <strong>of</strong> Ewell Castle, 57 th Foot, (1827-1902), settled at Edmondsham and was High Sheriff <strong>of</strong> Dorset, 1870.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or an eagle's head erased Gules holding in its beak a laurel sprig Proper.<br />

Crest: An eagle displayed Proper.<br />

MONSON Baron Monson and Viscount Oxenbridge. The manor <strong>of</strong> Gatton was acquired by Frederick John Monson, 5 th Baron<br />

Monson <strong>of</strong> Burton, (1809-41), Provincial Grand Master <strong>of</strong> Freemasons, <strong>Surrey</strong>, 1836-41. It was sold, 1888, by Sir William John Monson, 7 th<br />

Baron Monson, 1 st and last Viscount Oxenbridge, PC, DL, JP, BA (Oxon), (1829-98). (VCHS iii 198)<br />

The Rt. Hon. Sir Edmund John Monson, 1 st Bart., <strong>of</strong> Thatched House Lodge, Richmond Park, PC, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, MA, Hon. DCL<br />

(Oxon), Hon. LLD (Cantab), (1834-1909), 4 th son <strong>of</strong> the 6 th Baron Monson, (1796-1862), was created Baronet, 1905.<br />

Of the same family, Alfred John Monson, <strong>of</strong> 31 Josephine Avenue, Brixton Hill, (b.1860), son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Thomas John Monson, MA, Canon <strong>of</strong><br />

York, Rector <strong>of</strong> Kirby Underdale, {Yorkshire East Riding}, * (1825-87), and descended from the 2 nd Baron Monson, (d.1774).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or two chevronels Gules.<br />

Crest: A lion rampant Proper supporting a column Or.<br />

Supporters: (Of the Barons Monson and Viscount Oxenbridge). Dexter, A lion Or; Sinister, A griffin wings elevated Argent beaked and<br />

MONTAGU Baron Swaythling. Sir Stuart Albert Samuel Montagu, 3 rd Baron Swaythling, OBE, JP, MA (Cantab), <strong>of</strong> Crastock<br />

Manor, Crastock, Woking, (b.1898), succeeded his father the 2 nd Baron Swaythling <strong>of</strong> Swaythling, Southampton,{Hampshire}, on the latter's<br />

death, 1927. The Hon. Gerald Samuel Montagu <strong>of</strong> Great Fosters, Egham, (1880-1956), was 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> the 1 st Baron Swaythling, (1832-1911).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or on a mount Vert a tent Argent between on the dexter a staff Proper flowing therefrom a pennon Azure charged with a lion<br />

rampant <strong>of</strong> the field and on the sinister a palm tree also Proper.<br />

Crest: A stag statant holding in the mouth a sprig <strong>of</strong> palm Proper in front <strong>of</strong> a flagstaff erect also Proper * therefrom flowing to the<br />

dexter a banner Azure charged with a lion rampant Or.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, The Royal <strong>Arms</strong> <strong>of</strong> King Charles II, (viz. Quarterly, i and iv, France and England quarterly; ii, Scotland;<br />

iii, Ireland), debruised by a baton sinister Argent; 2, Or on a bend Azure an estoile between two crescents <strong>of</strong> the field (Scott); 3, Quarterly, i and<br />

Supporters: Two female figures habited from the waist downwards in blue kirtles gathered up at the knees the arms and bosoms<br />
