PRAIN Lieutenant-Colonel Sir David Prain, CMG, CIE, FRS, FRSE, FLS, MA, MB, LL.D, IMS, <strong>of</strong> The Well Farm, Warlingham,<br />

(1857-1944), elder son <strong>of</strong> David Prain <strong>of</strong> Fettercairn, Kincardineshire, (1824-1901), was Director <strong>of</strong> Kew Gardens, 1905-22 and <strong>of</strong> Forest<br />

Products Research, 1922-25.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent semé <strong>of</strong> lotus flowers Azure and roses Gules the latter barbed and seeded Vert on a chief <strong>of</strong> the third three weavers'<br />

shuttles <strong>of</strong> the field.<br />

Crest: Two hands erect couped at the wrist palms inward in the attitude <strong>of</strong> prayer between two branches <strong>of</strong> palm all Proper.<br />

PRATT <strong>of</strong> Vauxhall in Lambeth.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Sable on a fess between three elephant heads erased Argent as many mullets <strong>of</strong> the field.<br />

Crest: Between a branch <strong>of</strong> oak and another <strong>of</strong> pine each fructed Or a wolf's head per pale Argent and Sable langued and erased<br />

Gules gorged with a collar charged with three roundles all counterchanged.<br />

PRESTIGE George Ernest Prestige <strong>of</strong> 75 Elms Road, Clapham, (1861-1942), <strong>of</strong> the firm <strong>of</strong> Thomas Tapling and Co. Ltd, was a cadet <strong>of</strong><br />

the Prestwich family <strong>of</strong> Prestwich and Hulme, Lancashire, as is Sydney Keith Prestige <strong>of</strong> White Gates, Callow Hill, Virginia Water, (b.1919).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a mermaid Proper crined Or holding a glass and comb <strong>of</strong> the last. (FVL)<br />

At the Visitation <strong>of</strong> 1613, St. George recorded: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Gules a mermaid Argent crined Or holding a glass and comb <strong>of</strong> the last; 2 and<br />

Confirmed 1602, and borne (SV1623) by John ap Rees alias Price, son <strong>of</strong> Rees ap Evan, son <strong>of</strong> Evan ap Rees <strong>of</strong> Tregarran, Cardiganshire.<br />

From the monument in Richmond Church to Sir Charles Price, (d.Jul 19, 1818), Lord Mayor <strong>of</strong> London, 1802, who was created a baronet, 1803.<br />

Crest: A lion rampant Argent holding in the dexter paw a sprig <strong>of</strong> roses Proper.<br />

Sir Arthur, the 5 th baronet, assumed the name <strong>of</strong> Rugge-Price, Mar 7, 1874, Sir Charles, his ancestor, the 1 st baronet, having married, in 1773,<br />

Mary, daughter and, at length, co-heir <strong>of</strong> William Rugge <strong>of</strong> Conduit St, Hanover Square, and the family now quarter the arms <strong>of</strong> Rugge and use<br />

the Rugge crest in addition to their own. (Peerage, 1938) *<br />

<strong>Arms</strong> <strong>of</strong> Rugge: Sable on a chevron invected Argent between three mullets Or pierced <strong>of</strong> the first an unicorn head erased, also <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />
