LESLIE-MELVILLE Earl <strong>of</strong> Leven and Melville. John Thornton Leslie-Melville, 11 th Earl <strong>of</strong> Leven and Earl <strong>of</strong> Melville,<br />

DL, (1786-1876), was <strong>of</strong> Roehampton House, where he was succeeded by his eldest and 2 nd sons, Alexander, (1817-89), and Ronald Ruthven,<br />

(1835-1906), successively 12 th and 13 th Earls <strong>of</strong> Leven and Melville.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Quarterly, i and iv, Azure a thistle slipped Proper ensigned with an imperial crown Or (Leslie, a coat <strong>of</strong><br />

augmentation); ii and iii, Argent on a bend Azure three buckles Or (Leslie); 2 and 3, Quarterly, i and iv, Gules three crescents within a bordure<br />

Argent charged with eight roses <strong>of</strong> the first; ii and iii, Argent a fess Gules (Melville).<br />

Crests: 1, An arm embowed in armour the hand grasping a scimitar all Proper (Leslie); 2, The head <strong>of</strong> a wratch hound erased Sable<br />

(Melville).<br />

Supporters: Two men in complete armour each holding in his exterior hand a tilting spear erect all Proper and attached to the upper part<br />

LETCHWORTH Henry Finch Letchworth <strong>of</strong> Oak Hill, Surbiton, (1803-86), was father <strong>of</strong> the Rev. Arnold Letchworth, MA (Oxon), Vicar <strong>of</strong><br />

St. John's, Kingston, (b.1840).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per chevron Gules and Or two wings in chief Argent and a leopard's face in base Proper.<br />

Crest: In front <strong>of</strong> three ears <strong>of</strong> wheat two in saltire and one in pale Or a leopard's face as in the arms between two wings Argent<br />

each charged with a rose Gules barbed and seeded Proper.<br />

daughter and heir <strong>of</strong> Sir John Gresham, Bart., <strong>of</strong> Titsey), 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> Admiral John Leveson-Gower, (d.1792), 6 th son <strong>of</strong> John Leveson-Gower, 1 st<br />

Earl Gower.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Barry <strong>of</strong> eight Argent and Gules over all a cross flory * Sable, for Gower, quartering Azure three laurel<br />

leaves Or, for Leveson; 2 and 3, Argent a chevron Ermines between three mullets pierced Sable, for Gresham.<br />
