SKRINE The Rev. Clarmont Skrine <strong>of</strong> Warleigh Lodge, Wimbledon, sometime Captain 78 th and 47 th Regiments, (1820-86), was 3 rd<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Henry Skrine <strong>of</strong> Warleigh, Somerset, and Stubbings House, Berkshire, (1788-1853).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure in the dexter chief and sinister base points a tower Argent in the sinister chief and dexter base points a lion rampant<br />

Erminois * ducally crowned Or.<br />

Crest: A tower Argent on the battlements there<strong>of</strong> a lion couchant Erminois ducally crowned Or.<br />

SLADE The Rev. George FitzClarence Slade, MA (Oxon), Rector <strong>of</strong> Buckland and Rural Dean <strong>of</strong> Reigate, (1831-1904), was 11 th son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Sir John Slade, 1 st Bart., GCH, (1762-1859).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per fess Argent and Sable a pale counterchanged and three horses' heads erased, two and one, <strong>of</strong> the second a chief Ermine<br />

thereon two bombs fired Proper.<br />

Crest: On a mount Vert a horse's head erased Sable encircled with a chain in the form <strong>of</strong> an arch Gold.<br />

SLADEN St. Barbe Sladen <strong>of</strong> Heathfield, Reigate, (1817-99), was 3 rd son <strong>of</strong> John Baker Sladen, DL, JP, <strong>of</strong> Ripple Court, Kent, (1780-<br />

1860), by his wife Ethelred, (d.1867), eldest daughter and coheir <strong>of</strong> Kingsman Blaskett St. Barbe <strong>of</strong> London, and descended from Henry Slodon,<br />

a juror at Lyminge, Kent, 1449. From the latter descended also the Rev. Canon Lawrence Banks Sladen, MA (Oxon), (1867-1945), Curate <strong>of</strong><br />

Clapham, 1893-98; Hugh Alfred Lambart Sladen <strong>of</strong> 28 Grove Way, Esher, (1878-1962); and Major Algernon Ryder Lambert Sladen <strong>of</strong> Norfolk<br />

Cottage, Wentworth, (1885-1947), 2 nd , 7 th and 10 th sons <strong>of</strong> Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph Sladen, DL, JP, RA, <strong>of</strong> Ripple Court, (1840-1930),<br />

grandson <strong>of</strong> the above Joseph Baker Sladen (sic).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Barry <strong>of</strong> six Azure and Argent a horse's head erased between three crescents Or.<br />

Crest: On a mount Vert between two branches <strong>of</strong> palm Proper a lion's gamb erased and erect Sable holding a plume <strong>of</strong> five ostrich<br />

Chiddingfold, 1878-99.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Or on a bend Sable between two pellets a bezant all within a bordure <strong>of</strong> the second charged with annulets <strong>of</strong> the field and<br />

bezants alternately on a canton Argent gutté de poix a dragon passant Sable.<br />

Crest: A dragon Sable semé <strong>of</strong> annulets Or and resting the dexter claw on a bezant.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a fess engrailed Argent between three saltires Or.<br />

From the brass in Send Church to Laurence Slyfield, (d.Nov 13, 1521), said to have been a son <strong>of</strong> Thomas Slyfield <strong>of</strong> Slyfield Place by Anne,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> John Weston. (SAC xxxii 90)<br />

SLYFIELD <strong>of</strong> Slyfield Place in Great Bookham, until about 1600.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a fess engrailed Argent between three saltires Or.<br />

Crest: A beaver head couped Proper winged with a dexter wing Gules and a sinister wing Argent.<br />

SMALLMAN Henry Richard George Strong Smallman <strong>of</strong> Low Hedges, Worcester Road, Sutton, was son <strong>of</strong> Sir Henry George Smallman,<br />

<strong>of</strong> Eliot Lodge, Beckenham, Kent, (1857-1923).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per pale Or and Azure a chevron between two acorns leaved and slipped in chief and a falcon wings elevated in base all<br />

counterchanged.<br />

Crest: The stock <strong>of</strong> an oak tree eradicated and sprouting on either side Proper thereon an heraldic antelope sejant Gules bezanté and<br />

armed Or the dexter forefoot supporting a beehive also Proper.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a pile Gules between two griffins' heads erased in base a tower all counterchanged.<br />

Crest: On a rock Proper a griffin passant Argent holding in the beak a trefoil slipped Vert and supporting with the dexter foreleg a<br />
