LEES Joseph Lees, JP, <strong>of</strong> Minickfold, Holmwood, (b.1831), son <strong>of</strong> Joseph Lees <strong>of</strong> Greenacres Moor, Oldham, Lancashire, (1786-<br />

1845).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per chevron Or and Gules a chevron counterchanged between two roses in chief <strong>of</strong> the second barbed and seeded Proper and<br />

three distaffs one in pale and two saltirewise in base <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

Crest: In front <strong>of</strong> a cotton-hank fesswise Or thereon an owl close holding in the beak a branch <strong>of</strong> cotton-tree a distaff fesswise also<br />

Proper.<br />

LEES Sir Thomas Harcourt Ivor Lees, 8 th Bart., <strong>of</strong> 5 Becmead Avenue, Streatham, (b.1941), succeeded his father Sir Charles<br />

Archibald Edward Ivor Lees, 7 th Bart., <strong>of</strong> Black Rock, Co. Dublin, on the latter's death, 1963. The heir presumptive to the baronetcy is his<br />

kinsman John Cathcart D'Olier-Lees, eldest son <strong>of</strong> John Rutherford D'Olier-Lees, M.Inst.CE, <strong>of</strong> 23 Ashburton Road, Croydon, (b.1887).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure a fess chequy Argent and Sable between six cross crosslets fitché three in chief and three in nombril points Or and<br />

three billets two in the honour and one in the base points <strong>of</strong> the second.<br />

Crest: A dexter hand couped above the wrist and erect Proper grasping a crescent Or.<br />

LEESE Sir Joseph Francis Leese, 1 st Bart., KC, BA (London), <strong>of</strong> Send Holme, Send, (1845-1914), was created Baronet, 1908. The<br />

present holder <strong>of</strong> the title is his grandson Sir Alexander William Leese, 4 th Bart., (b.1909).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a fess embattled counter-embattled between in chief two falcons belled Or and in base a hand erect couped at the wrist<br />

holding a dagger in pale Proper pommel and hilt Gold.<br />

Crest: A falcon belled Or supporting with the dexter claw a flagstaff Proper headed and tasselled Or therefrom flowing to the dexter<br />

a banner Gules charged with a dagger in pale Proper pommel and hilt Gold.<br />

LE FANU Major George Victor Sheridan Le Fanu, Coldstream Guards, <strong>of</strong> Maltmans, Bagshot Road, Chobham, (b.1925), son <strong>of</strong> Major-<br />

General Roland Le Fanu, DSO, MC, (1887-1957), and descended from Guillaume Philippe Le Fanu, (1708-97), the 1 st <strong>of</strong> the family to settle in<br />

Ireland.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure a swan Argent on a cjief Or three roses Gules barbed Vert seeded Or.<br />

Crest: A greyhound’s head Argent.<br />

Supporters: Two greyhounds.<br />

LEFROY Anthony Lefroy <strong>of</strong> Leghorn and Canterbury, {Kent}, merchant banker, (1703-79), had issue, an elder son Anthony Peter, a<br />

2 nd son the Rev. Isaac Peter George Lefroy, Rector <strong>of</strong> Compton, also <strong>of</strong> Ashe, Hampshire, (1745-1806), father <strong>of</strong> the Rev. John Henry George<br />

Lefroy, BA (Oxon), rector <strong>of</strong> Compton, (1782-1823), from whom descended Captain Cecil Maxwell Lefroy, CMG, RN, at one time <strong>of</strong> Runwick<br />

House, Farnham, (1876-1931), and the Rev. Charles Edward Cottrell Lefroy, MA (Oxon), (1892-1940), Rector <strong>of</strong> Chiddingfold, 1915-23, and<br />

Vicar <strong>of</strong> Hersham, 1923-7. From the above elder son Lieutenant-Colonel Anthony Peter Lefroy, 9 th Dragoons, <strong>of</strong> Limerick, (1742-1819),<br />

descended Robert Henry Lefroy, <strong>of</strong> 7 Beaumonts, Salfords, Reigate, (b.1945). (IFR)<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Vert fretty Argent on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second a hood or cap, (allusive to the badge assumed by the party<br />

opposed to the Duke <strong>of</strong> Alva) between two wyverns Gules (Lefroy); 2 and 3, Azure a chevron Or between three crescents Argent on a chief<br />

Gules three mullets <strong>of</strong> the third (Langlois).<br />

Crest: A demi wyvern Gules armed and langued Azure.<br />

LEGGE The Rev. William Legge, Rector <strong>of</strong> Ashtead, (1802-72), was 2 nd son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. and Hon. Augustus George Legge, MA,<br />

Prebendary <strong>of</strong> Winchester, (1773-1828), and grandson <strong>of</strong> William, 2 nd Earl <strong>of</strong> Dartmouth.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure a stag's head cabossed Argent.<br />

Crest: Out <strong>of</strong> a ducal coronet Or a plume <strong>of</strong> five ostrich feathers Argent and Azure.<br />
