WICKINS <strong>of</strong> Banstead.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: A chevron between three trefoils slipped, a crescent for difference.<br />

Crest: A talbot courant Argent spotted Sable between two trees Vert fructed Or.<br />

From the monument in Banstead Church to Thomas Wickins, (d.Oct 4, 1694), citizen and fishmonger <strong>of</strong> London. (MB ii 595)<br />

WIDNELL <strong>of</strong> London, and later <strong>of</strong> Tandridge.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure on a chevron Or between three ostriches * Argent as many mullets Gules.<br />

Crest: A stork Or, beaked and legged and with the wings spread Sable besanty.<br />

<strong>of</strong> Clare House. His 3 rd son Charles Wigan, JP, MA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> Lynbrook, Knapp Hill, {?Woking}, and <strong>of</strong> Eastcr<strong>of</strong>t, Guildford, (1860-1937),<br />

Under Sheriff <strong>of</strong> <strong>Surrey</strong>, 1891-1921, was father <strong>of</strong> Colonel Charles Richard Wigan, MC, TD, DL, MA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> Farthings, Longdown,<br />

Guildford, Under Sheriff <strong>of</strong> <strong>Surrey</strong>, (b.1890) and Thomas Keble Wigan, JP, BA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> The Old Forge, West Chobham, barrister-at-law,<br />

(b.1892).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Vair on a pile Or a mount in base Vert thereon a mountain ash tree Proper.<br />

Crest: Upon a mount a mountain ash tree surmounted by a rainbow all Proper.<br />

WIGAN Sir Frederick Wigan, 1 st Bart., <strong>of</strong> Clare Lawn, East Sheen and <strong>of</strong> Purland Chase, Ross, Herefordshire, DL, JP, (1827-1907),<br />

High Sheriff <strong>of</strong> <strong>Surrey</strong>, 1894, 5 th son <strong>of</strong> John Alfred Wigan, (1787-1869), see preceding entry, was created Baronet, 1898; the present holder <strong>of</strong><br />

the title is Sir Alan Lewis Wigan, 5 th Bart., (b.1913). The 1 st Baronet's 4 th son Captain Edgar Clare Wigan, The Rifle Brigade, (b.1876), was <strong>of</strong><br />

Bradstone Brook, Shalford.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Vair on a pile Or a mount in base Vert thereon a mountain ash tree Proper.<br />

Place, (1823-87); Captain Roger Charles Kinglake Wigram, SCLI, <strong>of</strong> White Cr<strong>of</strong>t Park Road, Camberley, (b.1940); Major Charles Knox<br />

Wigram, RASC, <strong>of</strong> Treesclose, Stoke Road, Cobham, (1889-1966), father <strong>of</strong> Major James Robert Knox Wigram, RASC, <strong>of</strong> Morriswood, Brook<br />

Farm Road, Cobham, (b.1915), and Lieutenant Patrick Knox Wigram, ACII, RN (ret), <strong>of</strong> Hydes Woodlands Lane, Windlesham, (b.1937); and<br />

Marcus Walter Vincent Flowerdew Wigram, BA (Cantab), <strong>of</strong> 8 Ottershaw Park, Chertsey, (b.1917), Director <strong>of</strong> Music, Ottershaw School.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a pale Gules three escallops Or over all a chevron engrailed counterchanged on a chief waves <strong>of</strong> the sea thereon a<br />

ship representing an English vessel <strong>of</strong> war <strong>of</strong> the 16 th century with four masts sails furled Proper colours flying Gules.<br />

Crest: On a mount Vert a hand in armour in fess couped at the wrist Proper charged with an escallop and holding a fleur-de-lys<br />

erect Or.<br />

WIGSELL The Rev. Atwood W Wigsell, Rector <strong>of</strong> Sanderstead, died 1821, aged 26.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure a demi lion rampant Or on a chief embattled Gules three woodman's axes upright Argent all within a bordure<br />

engrailed <strong>of</strong> the last.<br />

Crest: From an embattlement an arm erect cuffed holding a woodman's axe.<br />
