KAY Granted to James Phillips Kay, LL.D, <strong>of</strong> Battersea.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent three ermine spots in bend between two bendlets Sable the whole between two crescents Azure.<br />
Crest: On a crescent Or a goldfinch Proper. (BGA)<br />
KAY Sir Brook Watson <strong>of</strong> East Sheen, (d.1807), was created Baronet, 1803, with remainder to his great-nephews, Sir William<br />
Kay, 2 nd Bart., (d. unmarried 1850), and Sir Brook Kay, 3 rd Bart., (1780-1866), from whom descended Brigadier-General Sir William Algernon<br />
Ireland Kay, 6 th and last Bart., <strong>of</strong> East Sheen, (killed in action, 1918)<br />

Ermine a martlet Sable.<br />
Crest: A griffin's head erased Erminois collared Azure charged with three crescents and holding in the beak a Key Or.<br />

BGA omits the canton from the arms and records the griffin's head in the crest as Ermine.<br />

Burke records these arms for William Kelsey <strong>of</strong> Ripley, who married, from the time <strong>of</strong> Edward III, Maud, daughter and heir <strong>of</strong> Sir Richard<br />
Willoughby; his grandson Thomas Kelsey <strong>of</strong> Ripley, left a daughter and heir, Lucia, who married, c.1390, Sir Nicholas Carew <strong>of</strong> Beddington,<br />
Keeper <strong>of</strong> the Privy Seal.<br />
KEMP <strong>of</strong> Croydon.<br />
<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules three wheatsheaves within a bordure engrailed Or, a fleur-de-lys for difference<br />
Crest: A falcon close Proper, beaked, legged and belled Or, hooded Gules, and charged on the breast with a fleur-de-lys <strong>of</strong> the<br />
second for difference.<br />

KEMP Sir Joseph Horsford Kemp, CBE, BA (Cape), <strong>of</strong> Camborne, Langley Park Road, Sutton, barrister-at-law, (1874-1950), was<br />
Chief Justice <strong>of</strong> the Supreme Court <strong>of</strong> Hong Kong, 1930-33. He was knighted 1927.<br />
