TERRY Thomas Henry Clarke Terry, JP, <strong>of</strong> Burvile, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, (1810-97), was Lieutenant, 15 th Hussars and<br />

<strong>Surrey</strong> Yeomanry and Lieutenant-Colonel, Commandant, 3 rd Royal <strong>Surrey</strong> Militia.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Ermine on a pile Gules a leopard's face jessant-de-lys Or.<br />

Crest: A lion's head couped Ermine.<br />

Motto: Perseverantia dabitur. (FD 1895, which states that no right to the arms was established at the College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Arms</strong>)<br />

was <strong>of</strong> Hazelbridge Court, Chiddingfold. Of the same family, Arthur Lionel Bruce Thesiger <strong>of</strong> Heath Corner, Burgh Heath, barrister-at-law,<br />

(1872-1968), was eldest son <strong>of</strong> the Hon. Sir Edward Peirson Thesiger, KCB, <strong>of</strong> Woodrough in Bramley, Clerk-Assistant <strong>of</strong> the Parliaments,<br />

(1842-1928), and grandson <strong>of</strong> the 1 st Baron Chelmsford, (1794-1878), from whom descend also David Arthur Grant Thesiger <strong>of</strong> 8 Sylvan<br />

Gardens, Surbiton, solicitor, son <strong>of</strong> Richard Edward Knight Thesiger, OBE, <strong>of</strong> 24 Hertford Avenue, East Sheen, barrister-at-law.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a griffin segreant Or within an orle <strong>of</strong> roses Argent barbed and seeded Proper.<br />

Crest: A cornucopia fesswise the horn Or the fruit Proper thereon a dove holding in the beak a sprig <strong>of</strong> laurel also Proper.<br />

FRS, (1843-1928), Director <strong>of</strong> Kew Gardens, 1885-1905, was son <strong>of</strong> Dr William George Thiselton-Dyer and grandson <strong>of</strong> William Matthew<br />

Thiselton and his wife Louisa Merzeau, who assumed the additional surname Dyer, 1840. (DNB)<br />

Samuel Thomas <strong>of</strong> Chobham, who, in 1573, married Joan, daughter and heir <strong>of</strong> Anthony Fenrother.<br />

THOMAS post GORING-THOMAS Rees Goring Thomas <strong>of</strong> Plâs Llannon, Carmarthenshire, and <strong>of</strong> Tooting Graveney, (d.1821), was father<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rees Goring Thomas, DL, JP, <strong>of</strong> Gelly Wernen and <strong>of</strong> Tooting, (1801-63), whose eldest son Rees Goring-Thomas, DL, JP, MA, <strong>of</strong> Tooting<br />

Lodge and <strong>of</strong> Plâs Llannon, (1824-87), was father <strong>of</strong> Rhys Goring-Thomas, JP, <strong>of</strong> Dorny Cottage, Crastock Road, Woking, (b.1864).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules on a chevron Or between three herons Argent four barrulets Azure.<br />

Crest: A heron's head erased Argent gorged with a chaplet <strong>of</strong> roses Gules.<br />

THOMAS Viscountess Rhondda. Margaret Haig, Viscountess Rhondda, (1883-1958), formerly wife <strong>of</strong> Sir Humphrey<br />

Mackworth, 7 th Bart., (d.1948), and daughter <strong>of</strong> David Alfred Thomas, 1 st Viscount Rhondda, (1856-1918), was <strong>of</strong> Churt, Halewell, Shere.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per pale Ermine and Ermines three chevronels Gules between as many eagles displayed Or collared <strong>of</strong> the third.<br />

Supporters: Dexter, A miner resting the exterior hand upon a shovel; Sinister, A like miner holding in the interior hand a safety lamp and<br />

in the exterior hand a pick-axe over the shoulder; all Proper.<br />
