MAY Baron May. Sir George Ernest May, 1 st Bart., KBE, <strong>of</strong> Eyot House, Weybridge, (1871-1946), was created Baronet,<br />

1931, and Baron May <strong>of</strong> Weybridge, 1935. The present holder <strong>of</strong> the titles is his grandson, Sir Michael St. John May, 3 rd Baron May, (b.1931).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules on a chevron between in chief three billets Or and in base an eagle displayed Argent three roses <strong>of</strong> the field barbed and<br />

seeded Proper.<br />

Crest: A demi leopard Proper holding in the dexter paw a bezant and resting the sinister paw on a terrestrial globe also Proper.<br />

MAYNE Robert Mayne <strong>of</strong> Gatton Park, Reigate, (1727-82), 17 th child <strong>of</strong> William Mayne <strong>of</strong> Powis, Perthshire, and Logie,<br />

Clackmannanshire, (1671-1756), and a younger brother <strong>of</strong> Sir William Mayne, Baron Newhaven, qv, had a 2 nd son the Rev. Robert Mayne, DL,<br />

JP, MA, Rector <strong>of</strong> Limpsfield, (1778-1841).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: (Matriculated L.O. {probably Lyons Office, Scottish Heraldry} 1660). Argent a chevron Gules voided <strong>of</strong> the field between<br />

two pheons in chief Sable and a fleur-de-lys in base Azure all within a bordure wavy <strong>of</strong> the last.<br />

Crest: A dexter mailed arm erect hand proper holding cross crosslet fitché Gules. (BLG17)<br />

MAYNE Baron Newhaven. Sir William Mayne, 1 st Baron Newhaven <strong>of</strong> Carrick Mayne, Co. Dublin, (dsp 1794 aged 72),<br />

MP for Gatton, 1780-90, bought the manor <strong>of</strong> Gatton, 1774. (VCHS iii 198)<br />

Crest: An arm erect couped below the elbow habited Azure cuffed Argent holding in the hand Proper a cross in pale Gules.<br />

between two bows chevronwise <strong>of</strong> the fourth stringed <strong>of</strong> the field (Meade).<br />
