MONTAGU-POLLOCK Sir George Seymour Montagu-Pollock, 4 th Bart., <strong>of</strong> the Khyber Pass, (b.1900), was at one time <strong>of</strong> Little Park Hill,<br />

White Hill, Bletchingley.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Azure three fleurs-de-lys within a bordure embattled Or and (for an honourable augmentation in respect<br />

<strong>of</strong> the first baronet's distinguished service in the Afghan War) on a chief <strong>of</strong> the second an eastern crown Gules superscribed "Khyber" and on a<br />

canton Ermine three cannons fessways in pale Sable (Pollock); 2 and 3, Per pale Argent and Gules four lozenges conjoined in fess<br />

counterchanged (Montagu).<br />

Crests: 1, A lion rampant guardant Argent adorned with an eastern crown Or holding in his dexter paw in bend an Afghan banner<br />

displayed Gules bordered Or and Vert the staff broken in two and in his sinister paw a part <strong>of</strong> the broken staff, and in an escrol over the same the<br />

motto 'Afghanistan' (Pollock); 2, A boar passant quartered embattled Or and Vert pierced through the sinister shoulder with an arrow Proper, and<br />

in an escrol over the same the motto 'Audacter et strenue' (Pollock); 3, A griffin's head couped Erminois wings addorsed and gorged with a collar<br />

MONTALDI Captain Alfredo Anacleto James Montaldi, RM, <strong>of</strong> 3 St. Leonard's Cottages, Giggs Green, Thames Ditton, (b.1886), son <strong>of</strong><br />

Cavalier Vittorio Amedeo Montaldi, CCI, CVML, <strong>of</strong> Forest Hall, Northumberland, (1847-1911).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules a bend Argent and three martlets in pale counterchanged.<br />

Crest: Two lilies in saltire leaved and slipped Proper.<br />

MONTEFIORE post GOLDSMID-MONTEFIORE. Claude Joseph Goldsmid-Montefiore, <strong>of</strong> Hopedene, Holmbury St. Mary, Dorking,<br />

(1858-1938), was son <strong>of</strong> Nathaniel Montefiore, JP, FRCS, <strong>of</strong> Coldeast, Hampshire, (1815-83), by his wife Emma, daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Isaac Lyon<br />

Goldsmid, 1 st Bart., and was succeeded by his son Leonard Nataniel Goldsmid-Montefiore, OBE, MA (Oxon), <strong>of</strong> Hopedene, (b.1889).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Argent a cedar tree between two mounts <strong>of</strong> flowers Proper on a chief Azure a dagger erect Proper<br />

pommel and hilt Or between two mullets <strong>of</strong> six points Gold (Montefiore); 2 and 3, Per saltire Ermine and Erminois on a chief Gules a goldfinch<br />

Proper between two roses Or (Goldsmid).<br />

Crests: 1, Two mounts as in the arms therefrom issuant a demi lion Or supporting a flagstaff Proper thereon hoisted a forked pennant<br />

flying towards the sinister Azure inscribed "Jerusalem" in letters <strong>of</strong> Gold (Montefiore); 2, A demi lion Argent supporting with the paws a bundle<br />

MONTGOMERY Sir Alexander Cecil Montgomery, 5 th and last Bart., <strong>of</strong> The Hall, Donegal, (1858-1939), was <strong>of</strong> Farley Lodge, Albury.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Quarterly, 1 and 4, Azure three fleurs-de-lys Or; 2 and 3, Gules three annulets Or gemmed Azure; on an escutcheon <strong>of</strong><br />

pretence Argent a tilting-spear and sword in saltire Proper; all within a bordure Argent charged with eight trefoils slipped Vert.<br />

Crest: On a chapeau Gules turned up Ermine a dexter cubit arm in armour the hand grasping a broken tilting-spear the point<br />

hanging down all Proper.<br />

Crest: An arm in armour erect grasping a sword all Proper.<br />

MONTGOMERY Viscount Montgomery <strong>of</strong> Alamein. Field Marshal Sir Bernard Law Montgomery, KG, GCB, DSO, (1887-1976), was<br />

created Viscount Montgomery <strong>of</strong> Alamein, <strong>of</strong> Hindhead, 1946, and was succeeded by his son, David Bernard, 2 nd Viscount Montgomery <strong>of</strong><br />

Alamein, CBE, MA (Cantab).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Azure two lions passant guardant between three fleurs-de-lys two in chief and one in base and two trefoils in fess all Or.<br />

Crest: Issuant from a crescent Argent an arm embowed in armour the hand grasping a broken tilting-spear in bend sinister the head<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent an eagle displayed Gules and two flaunches <strong>of</strong> the last each charged with a fleur-de-lys <strong>of</strong> the field on a chief <strong>of</strong> the<br />

second three crescents <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

Crest: A demi eagle displayed Gules in front there<strong>of</strong> a fleur-de-lys Argent and charged on the breast with an escutcheon <strong>of</strong> the last<br />

thereon a crescent also Gules.<br />
