LEWEN <strong>of</strong> Ewell from 1709 to 1743. Extinct 1743.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per pales Gules and Azure three stag heads couped Or.<br />

Crest: A stag trippant Or gorged with a chaplet Vert.<br />

From the monument in Ewell Church to Sir William Lewen, (d.Mar 16, 1721), Lord Mayor <strong>of</strong> London in 1717, son <strong>of</strong> Robert Lewen <strong>of</strong><br />

Wimborne, Dorset, and to Charles Lewen <strong>of</strong> London, Merchant, (d.Nov 23, 1732), nephew <strong>of</strong> Sir William. (MB i 466)<br />

LEWIS Sir Alfred Edward Lewis, KBE, <strong>of</strong> Coneybury, Lower Kingswood, (1868-1940), Vice-President <strong>of</strong> the Institute <strong>of</strong> Bankers,<br />

was son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. John Lewis <strong>of</strong> Birmingham.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: paly <strong>of</strong> eight Argent and Gules over all a lion rampant Sable on a chief per pale Or and <strong>of</strong> the second two lions passant<br />

counterchanged.<br />

Crest: A wolf sejant Proper resting the dexter paw on an escarbuncle Or.<br />

LEWSTON <strong>of</strong> Wimbledon.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Gules three halberds erect Argent, in chief an annulet Or for difference.<br />

As impaled on the monument in Wimbledon Church to William Walter, (d.1587), for his wife, Katherine, sister and heir <strong>of</strong> Humphrey Lewston,<br />

and daughter <strong>of</strong> Robert Lewston <strong>of</strong> Wimbledon.<br />

LIDDELL Thomas Lyon Liddell <strong>of</strong> Dormans Corner, Lingfield, (b.1920), 2 nd son <strong>of</strong> Lieutenant-Colonel Ge<strong>of</strong>frey William Liddell,<br />

DSO, The Rifle Brigade, (1884-1955) and descended from Sir Henry George Liddell, 5 th Bart., (1749-91).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent fretty Gules on a chief <strong>of</strong> the last three leopards' faces Or.<br />

Crest: A lion rampant Sable billetté and crowned with an eastern crown Or.<br />

LILLINGSTON Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Francis Innes Lillingston, OBE, IA, <strong>of</strong> Broadlands, Weybridge, (1877-1942), was son <strong>of</strong><br />

Lieutenant-Frederick George Innes Lillingston, RN, <strong>of</strong> Bute Court, Torquay, {Devon} and <strong>of</strong> West Torrington, {Devon}, (1849-1904).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per pale Argent and Or a bugle horn Sable garnished Gold stringed Gules between three crescents <strong>of</strong> the third each charged<br />

with an ermine spot <strong>of</strong> the first.<br />

Crest: A demi wyvern issuant tail nowed Sable wings expanded and elevated Or charged with an ermine spot <strong>of</strong> the first on the<br />

breast two annulets conjoined in pale Gold.<br />

LILLINGSTON Abraham Spooner <strong>of</strong> Elmdon Hall, Warwickshire, (1770-1834), married, 1797, Elizabeth Mary Agnes, (d.1830), daughter<br />

and heir <strong>of</strong> Luke Lillingston <strong>of</strong> Ferriby Grange, Yorkshire, and assumed the name and arms <strong>of</strong> Lillingston, 1797. They had issue, amongst others,<br />

an eldest son Isaac William, <strong>of</strong> whom below, a 2 nd son Charles Lillingston <strong>of</strong> The Chantry, Ipswich (1804-51), whose 4 th son the Ven. Frederick<br />

Arthur Cecil Lillingston, MA (TCD), (1837-1908), Archdeacon <strong>of</strong> Goulborn, Australia, 1864-73, was Vicar <strong>of</strong> St. James, Clapham, 1887-99.<br />

The eldest son Isaac William Lillingston, (1802-50), married, 1832, Katherine Innes, (d.1875), only daughter <strong>of</strong> Hugh Lindsay and great-niece<br />

and heir <strong>of</strong> Sir Hugh Innes, 1 st Bart., <strong>of</strong> Lochalsh, and was grandfather <strong>of</strong> Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Francis Innes Lillingston, OBE, IA, <strong>of</strong><br />

Broadlands, Weybridge, (1877-1942).<br />
