OGLETHORPE Sir Theophilus Oglethorpe, MP for Haslemere, 1698-1701, bought Westbrook in Godalming, 1688. It was eventually<br />

inherited by General James Edward Oglethorpe, MA (Oxon), (1696-1785), the great philanthropist and founder <strong>of</strong> the Colony <strong>of</strong> Georgia.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent a fess dancetté between three boars' heads Sable. (VCHS iii 37)<br />

descending all Proper in chief three antique crowns <strong>of</strong> the second.<br />

Crest: A knight in complete armour the vizor up resting his dexter hand on his sword point downwards with his sinister hand on his<br />

hip his legs entwined by a serpent all Proper on his helm three plumes Gules.<br />

OLDFIELD Thomas Brame Oldfield <strong>of</strong> Champion Hill and <strong>of</strong> Peckham Cottage, (1788-1848), was son <strong>of</strong> Thomas Oldfield <strong>of</strong> London,<br />

merchant and <strong>of</strong> Gabbins Wood, Hertfordshire, (1743-1808), and descended from the Oldfields <strong>of</strong> Oldfield, Cheshire.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Argent on a bend Gules three crosses pattée fitché <strong>of</strong> the field.<br />

Crest: A demi wyvern wings displayed Argent issuing from a ducal coronet Or.<br />
