eldest son <strong>of</strong> the Rev. David Landsborough, MA (Edinburgh), LL.D (Glasgow), (1826-1912), Minister <strong>of</strong> Henderson Free Church, Kilmarnock,<br />

Ayrshire, and grandson <strong>of</strong> the Rev. David Landsborough, (formerly McLandsborough), MA (Edinburgh), DD (USA), (1779-1854). Minister <strong>of</strong><br />

Stevenston, 1811-43, and Free Church Minister <strong>of</strong> Saltcoats, 1844-54, "the Gilbert White <strong>of</strong> Ardrossan"; the latter was descended from Andrew<br />

McClamroch, <strong>of</strong> Stranfasket, Kells, Kirkcudbrightshire, (1657-1709), by his wife Margaret, (d.1696), daughter <strong>of</strong> Edward Gordon, <strong>of</strong> Barmark,<br />

Balmaclellan, Kirkcudbrightshire, (living 1685).<br />

LANE Lieutenant-Colonel Ge<strong>of</strong>frey Ernald William Lane, OBE, JP, The Rifle Brigade, <strong>of</strong> Lomond, Horsehills, Horley, (b.1882),<br />

son <strong>of</strong> the Very Rev. Ernald Lane, MA (Oxon), Dean <strong>of</strong> Rochester, (1836-1913), and descended from Colonel John Lane, <strong>of</strong> Bentley,<br />

Staffordshire, (d.1667), who was instrumental in saving King Charles II after the Battle <strong>of</strong> Worcester.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per fess Or and Azure a chevron Gules between three mullets counterchanged on a canton <strong>of</strong> the third three lions passant<br />

guardant in pale Or.<br />

and Little Court, Merrow, (1863-1961), who had a son John Marshall Stevenson Lang, <strong>of</strong> Ratho, South View Road, Ashtead, (b.1902); and <strong>of</strong><br />

the Most Rev. and Rt. Hon. Cosmo Gordon Lang, Baron Lang <strong>of</strong> Lambeth, PC, GCVO, MA, DD, DCL (Oxon), (1864-1945), Archbishop <strong>of</strong><br />

York, 1909-28, Archbishop <strong>of</strong> Canterbury, 1928-42.<br />

Noel Langdale, <strong>of</strong> The Firs, Milford Heath, Godalming.<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Per chevron Azure and Sable a chevron Ermine between three estoiles Argent.<br />

Trumps Green, Virginia Water, were born 1917 and 1923, sons <strong>of</strong> Lieutenant-Colonel John du Plessis Langrishe, DSO, BA, MB (Dublin),<br />

FRSE, RAMC, (1883-1947), and descended from the Rev. Sir Hercules Richard Langrishe, 3 rd Bart., (1782-1862).<br />
