Crest: On a chapeau Gules turned up Ermine a lion statant tail extended Or.<br />

nephew, John Hilbert Tate <strong>of</strong> Cheam Hall and the Manor <strong>of</strong> Merton, (1804-62), father <strong>of</strong> John Hilbert Tate <strong>of</strong> Cheam Hall and the Manor <strong>of</strong><br />

Merton, (b.1837).<br />

TATE Sir Henry Tate, 1 st Bart., JP, <strong>of</strong> Park Hill, Streatham Common, (1819-99), a Trustee <strong>of</strong> the National Gallery and donor <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Tate Gallery to the Nation, was created Baronet, 1898; from him descends Sir Henry Tate, 4 th Bart., TD, DL, (b.1902). Louis William Tate <strong>of</strong><br />

Archways, Three Gates Lane, Haslemere, Francis Herbert Tate <strong>of</strong> High Housen, Hook Heath, Woking and John Frederick Peter Tate <strong>of</strong><br />

Limpsfield Common, Oxted, were born 1911, 1913 and 1923 respectively, sons <strong>of</strong> Alfred Herbert Tate <strong>of</strong> Chaleshurst, Chiddingfold, (1872-<br />

1930), and grandsons <strong>of</strong> Sir William Henry Tate, 2 nd Bart., DL, JP, (1842-1921).<br />

<strong>Arms</strong>: Ermine on a pale invected Azure between four Cornish choughs Proper two roses Argent.<br />

Crest: A dexter arm embowed vested Azure cuffed Or the arm charged with two roses Argent the hand holding a pineapple erect<br />

slipped and two ears <strong>of</strong> wheat saltirewise all Proper.<br />
