Running <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor As a Standalone Tool<br />

Chapter 2: Entry Strategies for <strong>Xilinx</strong> <strong>Constraints</strong><br />

If you installed <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor as a standalone tool, either:<br />

• Click the <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor icon on the Windows desktop, or<br />

• Select Start > Programs > <strong>Xilinx</strong> ISE > Accessories> <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor<br />

Running <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor From the Command Line With No Data<br />

Loaded<br />

To start <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor from the command line with no data loaded, type:<br />

constraints_editor<br />

Running <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor From the Command Line With the NGD<br />

File Loaded<br />

To start <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor from the command line with the NGD file loaded, enter:<br />

constraints_editor ngdfile_name<br />

ngdfile_name is the name of the NGD file<br />

It is necessary to use the .ngd extension.<br />

If a UCF file with the same base name as the NGD file exists, it is loaded also. Otherwise,<br />

you are prompted for a UCF file.<br />

Running <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor From the Command Line With the NGD<br />

File and the UCF File Loaded<br />

To start <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor from the command line with the NGD file and the UCF<br />

file loaded, enter:<br />

constraints_editor ngdfile_name -uc ucf_file_name<br />

• ngdfile_name is the name of the NGD file<br />

• ucf_file_name is the name of the UCF file<br />

It is necessary to use the .ucf extension.<br />

Running <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor From the Command Line As a<br />

Background Process<br />

To run <strong>Constraints</strong> Editor as a background process on a workstation, enter:<br />
