MDA, I knew I was getting laid. All I had to do was
mention sex once and touch them anywhere, even
their arm and they wanted more.”—Anonymous
of a mushroom person. I’ve never tried heroin or
cocaine or even LSD, preferring mushrooms or
perhaps a good tab of ecstasy.”—Velocity Chyaldd
eventually shooting, cocaine, forget about it—sex was suddenly
nothing more than a way for me to make more money
to cop more cocaine and heroin. Forget about love and forget
about pleasure.
But this isn’t how it works for everyone. Some people thoroughly
enjoy taking cocaine while having sex. Some folks
have no problem with taking heroin and maintaining an erection
all night and never catching a habit—or if they do, not
letting it get in the way of their sex. Some folks love taking
speed and screwing all night. It’s a case where “to each his/
her own” rings true.
“Cocaine, sniffing, is odd. It feels real nice, but can
frustrate as full orgasm seems elusive. Smoking
cocaine, the vibes are all wrong for sex, kinda
creepy, really. Heroin, I’ve no desire for much more
than noddin’ and chillin’, maybe a snuggle while
I drift, with a place to rest my head.”—Sharon
“Crack or freebase…. Sex is the only thing that
gets my mind off of being paranoid when I do
either. Makes me horny as a dog, but
then I have trouble ‘getting it up’ so
combine that with a prescription which
helps me get it up (not Viagra, there
are others I enjoy better), and voila! Whew! Take
a hit at the same time I am coming and bam! The
biggest best fucking physical and mental orgasms
I’ve ever had in my life!”—Anonymous 48-year-old
Indiana resident
For this writer, heroin and cocaine both started out being extremely
sexy drugs. I would shoot heroin with a lover, then
make love all night, unable to come yet able to stay hard for
hours. It was an awesomely beautiful experience each and
every time—until I caught a habit. Then my use of heroin got
in the way of sex and rapidly became much more important
than sex ever was.
Cocaine was very similar for me—when simply snorting the
powder form, I felt like a god in bed and would find myself
feeling especially kinky. But once I began smoking, then
Cocaine (and speed) has been alleged by some researchers,
not to mention anecdotally by many users, to release such a
flood of dopamine in the brain that it blows away any release
naturally occurring from orgasms, making sex seem somehow
insignificant to the habitual user. “As a result of cocaine’s
actions in the nucleus accumbens, there are increased impulses
leaving the nucleus accumbens to activate the reward
system, and with continued use of cocaine, the body relies
on this drug to maintain rewarding feelings. The person is no
longer able to feel the positive reinforcement or pleasurable
feelings of natural rewards (food, water, sex).” 10
While it is questionable as to whether this becomes an issue
or problem with most recreational, part-time sniffers, from my
own personal experiences and taking into account the numerous
tales told by hardcore cocaine, heroin, and speed addicts
I’ve known and loved, this lack of interest in sex amongst
addicts is more often than not the rule rather than the exception.
“As with cocaine, continued use of opiates [e.g., heroin]
makes the body rely on the presence of the drug to maintain
on MDA, I knew I was getting laid.”
rewarding feelings and other normal behaviors. The person is
no longer able to feel the benefits of natural rewards (food,
water, sex) and can’t function normally without the drug present.”
But as our anonymous Indiana resident above makes clear,
there are exceptions to every rule, and cocaine and heroin
have always been, and will continue to be, sex enhancers for
many users.
