SEXIS WRONG

About the Editor
Besides the books below, Russ has written articles and
a column for the Village Voice and several independent
magazines. The Memory Hole [www.thememoryhole.org],
a website devoted to rescuing knowledge and freeing information,
is his labor of love. His personal website is [www.

Russ made world headlines in April 2004 when his Freedom
of Information Act request/appeal resulted in the release of
288 photos of the US war dead coming home in flag-draped
coffins. He posted the Pentagon-banned images on The
Memory Hole, and overnight the story jumped into heavy
rotation on the 24-hour news channels. The photos were
carried by almost every newspaper in the world, often on
the front page, and Russ was interviewed on Good Morning
America and CBS Evening News With Dan Rather, plus
numerous print outlets and NPR. The Los Angeles Times
declared: “A new media player is born,” while Time, in an
article about blogs (even though The Memory Hole isn’t a
blog), asked: “How are you going to keep anything secret
from a thousand Russ Kicks?”
The previous Halloween, Russ had made the front page of
the New York Times when he digitally uncensored a heavily
redacted Justice Department report.
