polluted yourself? If you have done this, you shall do penance
for three days on bread and water. But if this happened in a
church, you shall do penance for twenty days on bread and
water.

Have you fornicated against Nature, that is, you have had intercourse
with animals, that is, with a horse or a cow or a donkey
or with some other animal? If you did this only once or twice,
and if you had no wife, so that you could to relieve your lust,
you must do penance for forty days on bread and water, which
is called a “carina,” as well as [repeating it] for the seven following
years, and never be without penitence. If, however,
you had a wife, you must do penance for ten years on legitimate
holy days; and if you were in the habit of this crime, you
must do penance for fifteen years on the legitimate holy days.
If, however, this occurred during your childhood, you must do
penance on bread and water for 100 days.
