Describe the interaction and commentary among the
dancers onstage. ~ I’ve heard everything imaginable onstage.
There’s on-purpose commentary and off-purpose
commentary. There’s gossiping about life and what’s new—
girl talk. Dancers talk about how much they’re in love with
each other and how they want to fuck each other. They don’t
use those words, but that’s the context. They acknowledge
each other’s sexiness. A lot of, “oh baby,” a lot of stuff that
if a man said it to me on the street, I’d be really pissed off.
Sometimes a guy will have either a huge cock or a great physique,
or maybe a pair of red undies, nylons, and high heels
on, or he’s doing something really kinky. We’ll all start squealing
and take turns looking and telling him we appreciate it.
There’s a lot of trying to manage the customers: “Smile,” or,
“Please don’t do that,” or, “Isn’t she hot?”
At its most fun, the dancers are constantly enrolling each other
in activities, and it can get really wild. An old Motown song

go down, and we’re “us” instead of “me and her.” Dancers

Is the myth of the perfect body perpetuated here? ~ Yes
and no. Most of the customers still want to see the mythic
female, and those women get the most attention. Quite often
they make the most money. In this job, if you’re beauti ful, you
can go far. You don’t have to be a particularly good dancer;
you don’t have to work as hard. But the truth is, there are
some hot women who wouldn’t fit the myth, and they get
validated as well. What’s more accurate, every customer has
their own myth and there is really, literally, a man for every
woman’s body on this planet! [Laughs.] I know from listening
to the cus tomers’ comments. Things that the woman concentrates
on as being the icky parts, the customers couldn’t
care less. They see the beautiful breast, the shapely ass, the
incredible puss, or whatever. They’re drawn to what they like,
rather than being stopped by what the dancer thinks is not
perfect—her stretch marks or her little roll.
There’s not very much forgiveness for fat dancers at all; she
has to have something perfect on her body, some redeeming
quality. Our culture’s just anti-fat. Our standard shifted to
include heavier and heavier women. At one point we hired a
woman who was between 250 and 300 pounds. She lasted
about a day. We were really clear with her that it may not
work, but we were willing to give it a shot. The owner was
here for her first shift and said, “There is a woman big as a
house onstage! But I’m just giving you feedback!” And the
customers really didn’t like her. The least forgiving in general
are younger men. It was frustrating because I know there are
men who L-O-V-E big women! Those chunky-ass magazines

Do you ever become aroused by what you are doing or
what is happening around you onstage? ~ I couldn’t believe
