They are differencesbetween proletarian internationalism and great-power chauvinism,sectarianism and splittism.The facts of the past seven years have amply proved thatthe road taken by the leadership of the CPSU is the courseof allying with imperialism against socialism, allying with theUnited States against China, allying with the reactionariesof all countries against the people of the world, and allyingwith the renegade Tito clique against fraternal Marxist-Leninist Parties. This erroneous line of the leadership of theCPSU has led to a revisionist flood on an international scale,brought the international communist movement face to facewith the danger of a split of unprecedented gravity, andbrought serious damage to the peoples’ cause of world peace,national liberation, people’s democracy and socialism.The facts of the past seven years have also amply provedthat the Communist Party of China has constantly strivento prevent the situation from deteriorating and to upholdprinciple, eliminate differences, strengthen unity and wage acommon struggle against the enemy. We have exercisedgreat restraint and done our very best.The Communist Party of China has always stressed theimportance of the unity of the Chinese and Soviet Parties andthe two countries. It has always held in respect the CommunistParty of the Soviet Union created by the great Lenin.We have always cherished deep proletarian affection for thegreat CPSU and the great Soviet people. We have rejoicedover every achievement of the CPSU and the Soviet people,and we have been saddened by every error of the leadershipof the CPSU that has harmed the socialist camp and the internationalcommunist movement.It is not just today that the Chinese Communists have begunto discover the errors of the CPSU leadership. Ever since the20th Congress of the CPSU, we have watched with concernas the CPSU leadership took the road of revisionism.100
Confronted with this grave situation, our Party has scoresof times and for a long period considered: what should we do?We asked ourselves, should we follow the CPSU leadershipand suit all our actions to its wishes? In that case, the leadershipof the CPSU would of course rejoice, but would not weourselves then turn into revisionists?We also asked ourselves, should we keep silent about theerrors of the CPSU leadership? We believed that the errorsof the CPSU leadership were not just accidental, individualand minor errors, but rather a whole series of errors of principle,which endanger the interests of the entire socialistcamp and international communist movement. As a memberin the ranks of the international communist movement, howcould we be indifferent and keep silent about these errors?If we should do that, would not we be abandoning our duty todefend Marxism-Leninism and proletarian internationalism?We foresaw that if we criticized the errors of the leaders ofthe CPSU, they would certainly strike at us vindictively andthus inevitably cause serious damage to China’s socialist construction.But should Communists take a stand of nationalegoism and not dare to uphold truth for fear of vindictiveblows? Should Communists barter away principles?We took into consideration the fact that the CPSU wasbuilt by Lenin, that it is the Party of the first socialist state,and that it enjoyed high prestige in the international communistmovement and among the people of the whole world.Therefore, over a considerable period of time, we were particularlycareful and patient in criticizing the leaders of theCPSU, trying our best to confine such criticism to inter-Partytalks between the leaders of the Chinese and Soviet Partiesand to solve the differences through private discussions withoutresorting to public polemics.But all the comradely criticism and advice given to theleaders of the CPSU by responsible comrades of the CentralCommittee of the CPC in scores of inter-Party talks did notsucceed in enabling them to return to the correct path.
