Yugoslavia presents a typicalexample of the restoration of capitalism.It shows us that not only is it possible for a working-classparty to fall under the control of a labour aristocracy, degenerateinto a bourgeois party and become a flunkey of imperialismbefore it seizes power, but even after it seizes powerit is possible for a working-class party to fall under the controlof new bourgeois elements, degenerate into a bourgeois partyand become a flunkey of imperialism. The League of Communistsof Yugoslavia typifies such degeneration.It shows us that the restoration of capitalism in a socialistcountry can be achieved not necessarily through a counterrevolutionarycoup d’état or armed imperialist invasion andthat it can also be achieved through the degradation of theleading group in that country. The easiest way to capture afortress is from within. Yugoslavia provides a typical casein point.It shows us that revisionism is the product of imperialistpolicy. Old-line revisionism arose as a result of the imperialistpolicy of buying over and fostering a labour aristocracy. Modernrevisionism has arisen in the same way. Sparing no cost,imperialism has now extended the scope of its operations andis buying over leading groups in socialist countries and pursuesthrough them its desired policy of “peaceful evolution”. U.S.imperialism regards Yugoslavia as the “bellwether” because ithas set an example in this respect.The restoration of capitalism in Yugoslavia will make allMarxist-Leninists see better and enable people to realizemore keenly the necessity and urgency of combating modernrevisionism.So long as imperialism exists, there is apparently no groundfor saying that the danger of the restoration of capitalism inthe socialist countries has been eliminated.The leaders of the CPSU proclaim that they have alreadyeliminated the danger of the restoration of capitalism and arebuilding communism. If this were true, it would of course be182
heartening. But we see that in fact they are imitating Yugoslaviain every way and have taken a most dangerous road.This deeply worries and pains us.Out of our warm love for the great Soviet Union and thegreat CPSU, we would like sincerely to appeal to the leadersof the CPSU: Comrades and friends! Do not follow the Yugoslavroad. Turn back at once. Or it will be too late!
