In our foreign affairs over the past fourteen years, we haveadopted different policies towards different types of countriesand varied our policies according to the different conditionsin countries of the same type.1. We differentiate between socialist and capitalist countries.We persevere in the proletarian internationalist principleof mutual assistance with regard to socialist countries.We take the upholding and strengthening of the unity of allthe countries in the socialist camp as the fundamental policyin our foreign relations.2. We differentiate between the nationalist countries whichhave newly attained political independence and the imperialistcountries.Although fundamentally different from the socialist countriesin their social and political systems, the nationalist countriesstand in profound contradiction to imperialism. They havecommon interests with the socialist countries — opposition toimperialism, the safeguarding of national independence andthe defense of world peace. Therefore, it is quite possibleand feasible for the socialist countries to establish relationsof peaceful coexistence and friendly co-operation with thesecountries. The establishment of such relations is of greatsignificance for the strengthening of the unity of the antiimperialistforces and for the advancement of the commonstruggle of the peoples against imperialism.We have consistently adhered to the policy of consolidatingand further developing peaceful coexistence and friendly cooperationwith countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.At the same time, we have waged appropriate and necessarystruggles against countries such as India which have violatedor wrecked the Five Principles.3.
