The series of distressing developments which have occurredin the socialist camp in the past period have harmed the interestsnot only of the fraternal Parties concerned but alsoof the masses of the people in their countries. This convincinglydemonstrates that the larger countries and Partiesneed to keep in mind Lenin’s behest never to commit theerror of great-power chauvinism.The comrades of the CPSU state in their letter that “theCommunist Party of the Soviet Union has never taken andwill never take a single step that could sow hostility amongthe peoples of our country towards the fraternal Chinesepeople or other peoples”. Here we do not desire to go backand enumerate the many unpleasant events that have occurredin the past, and we only wish that the comrades of the CPSUwill strictly abide by this statement in their future actions.During the past few years, our Party members and ourpeople have exercised the greatest restraint in the face of aseries of grave incidents which were in violation of the principlesguiding relations among fraternal Parties and countriesand despite the many difficulties and losses which have beenimposed on us. The spirit of proletarian internationalism ofthe Chinese Communists and the Chinese people has stood asevere test.The Communist Party of China is unswervingly loyal toproletarian internationalism, upholds and defends the principlesof the 1957 Declaration and the 1960 Statement guidingrelations among fraternal Parties and countries, and safeguardsand strengthens the unity of the socialist camp andthe international communist movement.23. In order to carry out the common programme of theinternational communist movement unanimously agreed uponby the fraternal Parties, an uncompromising struggle mustbe waged against all forms of opportunism, which is a deviationfrom Marxism-Leninism.The Declaration and the Statement point out that revisionism,or, in other words, Right opportunism, is the main danger45
