The contradiction between capitalism and socialism isthe chief contradiction of our epoch. On the outcome of thestruggle of the two world systems the destinies of peace, democracyand socialism depend to a decisive extent. And thecorrelation of forces in the world arena is changing all thetime in favour of socialism.The struggle of the peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin Americafor their national and social liberation, and the successes alreadyachieved in this field, the growing struggle of the workingclass, of all the working people of the capitalist countriesagainst the monopolies and against exploitation, in the interestsof social progress, are of the greatest importance for thedestinies of the historical development of mankind. Socialistrevolutions, national-liberation anti-imperialist and anticolonialrevolutions, people’s democratic revolutions, extensivepeasant movements, the struggle of the masses for theoverthrow of fascist and other tyrannical regimes, generaldemocratic movements against national oppression — in ourtime all these merge into a single world revolutionary streamundermining and destroying capitalism.Working out its policy in conformity with the new conditions,the world communist movement could not fail to takeinto account quite seriously also such an important factor asthe radical qualitative change in the military-technical meansof waging war resulting from the emergence and stockpilingof thermo-nuclear weapons possessing unprecedented destructiveforce. Until disarmament is effected the socialist communitymust always maintain superiority over the imperialistsin their armed forces. We shall never allow the imperialists toforget that should they unleash a war with the aim of decidingby force of arms whether mankind must develop along theroad of capitalism or of socialism, it will be the last war, theone in which imperialism will be finally routed.502
Under present-day conditions it is the duty of all championsof peace and socialism to use to the utmost the existing favourableopportunities for the victory of socialism, and not toallow imperialism to unleash a world war.The correct analysis of the alignment of class forces in theworld arena, and the correct Marxist-Leninist policy elaboratedat the Moscow Meetings, made it possible for the fraternal Partiesto gain major successes in developing the world socialistsystem, and facilitated the growth of the class revolutionarystruggle in the capitalist countries and of the national-liberationmovement.The socialist system is exerting an ever-growing influenceon the course of world development. The entire world revolutionaryprocess is today developing under the direct influenceof the great example provided by the new life in the countriesof socialism. The more successfully the ideas of communismmake their way to the minds and hearts of the general masses,the greater and more significant are our achievements in thebuilding of socialism and communism. It is, therefore, clearthat he who wants to bring closer the victory of socialismthroughout the entire world should, in the first place, showconcern for strengthening the great socialist community andits economic might, should seek to raise the standard of livingof its peoples, develop science, engineering and culture, consolidateits unity and solidarity and the growth of its internationalauthority. The Statement of the Moscow Meeting placesthe responsibility to the international working-class movementfor the successful building of socialism and communism onthe Marxist-Leninist Parties and the peoples of the socialistcountries.Tirelessly strengthening the world socialist system, thefraternal Parties and peoples of our countries make their contributionto the great cause of the struggle of the internationalworking class, of all the working people, of the entire liberationmovement for solving the basic problems of the day inthe interests of peace, democracy and socialism.503
