Fightingfor peace today implies maintaining supreme vigilance, tirelesslyexposing imperialist policy, keeping close watch on thewar instigators’ manoeuvres and machinations, rousing thewrath of the peoples against those whose policy is war, enhancingthe organization of the peace forces, constantly intensifyingmass activity for peace, strengthening co-operation withall states not interested in new wars.The struggle for peace and peaceful co-existence weakensthe front of imperialism, isolates its most aggressive circlesfrom the people and helps advance the revolutionary struggleof the working class and the national-liberation struggle ofthe peoples.The struggle for peace and peaceful co-existence is organicallylinked with the revolutionary struggle against imperialism.“In conditions of peaceful co-existence,” the Statementof the 81 Communist parties says, “favourable opportunitiesare provided for the development of the class struggle in thecapitalist countries and the national-liberation movement ofthe peoples of the colonial and dependent countries. In theirturn, the successes of the revolutionary class and nationalliberationstruggle promote peaceful co-existence.”In conditions of peaceful co-existence, new important victorieshave been scored in recent years in the class struggle ofthe proletariat and in the struggle of the peoples for nationalfreedom. The world revolutionary process is developingsuccessfully.554
For this reason, to separate the fight for peaceful co-existenceof countries with different social systems from the revolutionaryfight against imperialism and colonialism, forindependence and socialism — to counterpose them, as theChinese comrades do — is to reduce the principle of peacefulco-existence to a hollow phrase, to deprive it of all real meaning,to ignore, in effect, the need for resolute struggle againstimperialism, for peace and peaceful co-existence. But thatwould be to the benefit only of the imperialists.In its June 14 letter, the CPC Central Committee accusesthe Communist parties of extending peaceful co-existence ofcountries with different social systems to relations betweenthe exploiters and the exploited, between the oppressed andoppressor classes, between the working people and the imperialists.This is a monstrous fabrication and slander of thefraternal parties, which are leading the proletariat in its classbattles with capital and which always support the revolutionarystruggle and the just liberation wars against imperialism.The arguments the CPC leaders advance in their struggleagainst the CPSU and the other fraternal parties are so feeblethat they have to resort to all manner of subterfuge. Theybegin by ascribing to us absolutely groundless propositionsof their own invention and then proceed to accuse us, to fightus and expose these propositions. That applies to their absurdallegation that the CPSU and the other fraternal parties haverenounced revolution and have substituted peaceful coexistencefor the class struggle. Even political-study-groupstudents know that peaceful co-existence applies to governmentalrelations between socialist and capitalist states. Theprinciple of peaceful co-existence, naturally, can in no way beextended to relations between antagonistic classes in capitaliststates. Nor is it permissible to extend it to the workingclassstruggle against the bourgeoisie for its class interests,or to the struggle of oppressed peoples against the colonialists.The CPSU is resolutely opposed to peaceful co-existence in555
