For a date more than six months in the future, set an interim call-up to contact the claimant<br />

and ensure that the specified date remains viable.<br />

(4) If the claimant does not state a plan to return to duty, or if the date <strong>of</strong>fered is<br />

inconsistent with the nature and severity <strong>of</strong> the injury, refer the case to a Staff RN (see<br />

paragraph 5 below).<br />

(5) If the medical evidence, the medical matrix, and MEDGUIDE do not provide a return<br />

to work date, the CE will need to call the attending physician to obtain a return to duty<br />

date, or arrange for the RN to do so.<br />

Note the date <strong>of</strong> this telephone call and the date <strong>of</strong> referral to the RN in the CMF, and on the Case<br />

Management Form CA-674.<br />

d. Actions if Claimant Has No Return to Work Plan. If the claimant has not returned to duty,<br />

or has no plan to do so, the CE should:<br />

(1) Advise the claimant in writing that he or she:<br />

(a) Will continue to receive compensation only through the specified date (from<br />

the attending physician, the medical matrix, or the guidance in MEDGUIDE) without<br />

submission <strong>of</strong> another claim.(a)<br />

b) Is expected to contact the employing agency to find out if light duty is<br />

available and advise the attending physician <strong>of</strong> the light duty requirements;<br />

(c)<br />

Is expected to return to work as soon as medically able to do so.<br />

Forms CA-1650 or CA-1651 may be used for this purpose.<br />

(2) Release Form CA-1656 to the employing agency. This letter requests the position<br />

description, including the physical requirements <strong>of</strong> the job.<br />

e. Further Compensation Payments. Depending on the projected recovery date and other<br />

medical developments, the CE may need to authorize further compensation payments.<br />

f. Conferencing. Depending on district <strong>of</strong>fice practice, the CE may wish to arrange a<br />

conference to coordinate with the various parties involved in the claim (PM Chapter 2-0500<br />

addresses procedures for conferencing.)<br />
