Tarani Ghosh pressurized Ramakrishna’s family to tell him the location of his son. On 17 June
2007, Ramakrishna told Tarani Ghosh that his son was in nursing home in Chattisgarh. Tarani
Ghosh found Srinat admitted in serious condition. Srinat told his father that Ramakrishna
demanded money from him. When he refused to pay them, they beat him with weapons. Tarani
Ghosh brought his son to Murishidabad.
Srinat Ghosh lodged a complaint at Berhampore PS. On 6 July 2007, Srinat lodged a complaint
to the Superintendent of Police, Berhampore. The police have not taken action on either
complaint.

Case Details:
On 4 November 2007, a few CPI members, including Uday Krishna Basu, barged into the
victim Sukanya Bhattacharya’s house and ransacked it. Uday Krishna Basu and others
verbally abused her and looted the valuables.
Sukanya went to the Beleghata PS. The police assured her that they would send police officers
to her house. When she reached home, she was beaten by Uday Krishna Basu and others.
The police arrived after the incident.
Sukanya again went to the Beleghata PS, but the POs refused to help. Instead they told her to
retrieve her valuables from Krishna Basu on her own.
Later, Krishna Basu threatened Sukanya with dire consequences, and Sukanya lodged one
complaint at the Beleghata PS and sent one to the Commissioner. The police still have refused
to take action.
