Suddenly, a PC from Out Post No 3 started beating Habibur. The PC beat Habibur until he was unconscious. Some villagers witnessed the beating and rescued Habibur. Habibur’s father Mr. Hazrat Shah, attempted to file a complaint regarding this at Jalangi PS on 3 rd August 2007, but the police only filed a General Diary entry. Though Habibur appeared very weak and the marks from the beating were visible on his body, the police refused to issue a letter for medical treatment. Mr. Hazrat Shah took Habibur to a doctor, who was previously a BSF Employee. The doctor refused to issue a medical certificate since Habibur lived in the border areas. She lives in Kartiker Para village. On 11 September 2007, Hazera Bewa’s son had a conflict with Mafikul Seikh; the conflict had its origins in a quarrel at a wedding that Hazera Bewa had attended on 15 August 2007. Mafikul Seikh lodged a complaint at the Raninagar PS. At around 9.30pm, SI Pradip Biswas (who was allegedly drunk) and four other officers from Raninagar PS entered Hazera Bewa’s house, beat her, insulted her, and ransacked her house. They broke her locker and took Rs. 26,700.
Hazera Bewa went with some political party leaders to the Raninagar PS to lodge a complaint. The SI was present. He insulted Hazera Bewa and told her to leave. OC Sunayan Basu finally received Hazera Bewa’s complaint, but did not register a General Diary Entry or an FIR. The SI has denied everything regarding this incident. The OC has stated that he is not sure whether the SI and other officers stole money; he has stated that he suspected the involvement of some other people in the case and that the police would decide how to investigate the case. Local witnesses have supported Hazera Bewa’s version of events. Before entering the area Ichharuddin and Enamul Mollah disclosed the purpose of their work to BSF Personnel Alam Seikh and Rakib Hossain. When Ichharuddin was returning two hours later, BSF Personnel Alam Seikh and Rakib Hossain stopped them and blamed Ichharuddin and Enamul Mollah for carrying illegally carrying mobile phones. When they refuted the allegation, Alam Seikh and Rakib Hossain started beating Ichharuddin and Enamul Mollah with a stick. Enamul Mollah shouted for help. Alam Seikh and Rakib Hossain kicked him for shouting and abused him. Alam Seikh and Rakib Seikh continued beating Ichharuddin Mollah with a bamboo stick.
