Binoy Halder, Bishnu Halder, and Suryakanta Mondal were then detained in Raj Sahi Jail in<br />

Bangladesh.<br />

Several complaints regarding this case have been lodged in the Jalangi Police Station as well as<br />

with other authorities. No action was taken.<br />

The family members of Binoy Halder, Bishnu Halder, and Suryakanta Mondal are anxious, and<br />

face acute financial problems.<br />

Case Details:<br />

Victim Biswajit Banerjee, age about 28, lives in Shyamnagar, Gurdaha, PO Jagatdal, North 24<br />

Paraganas District, <strong>West</strong> <strong>Bengal</strong>. He runs a shop.<br />

On 15 March 2004, Jalaluddin, Kahar Gazi, and some other miscreants came to Biswajit<br />

Banerjee’s shop and demanded Rs. 1 lakh in cash. They claimed that Biswajit Banerjee’s father<br />

had taken a loan for that amount from them, but they could not show any document in support of<br />

their claim. They threatened to kill Biswajit Banerjee and his father, and also warned that in case<br />

of failure to pay they would set fire to Biswajit Banerjee’s shop.<br />

2007<br />

Biswajit did not lodge any complaint at the police station. However, he described the incident to a<br />

local club. The secretary of the club, Shasanka Bhattacharya, told Biswajit Banerjee that he<br />

would solve the problem during the next month.<br />

On 31 March 2004, the miscreants intruded into Biswajit Banerjee’s house and attempted to<br />

kidnap Biswajit Banerjee and his brother. When they failed in their attempt, the miscreants<br />

threatened Biswajit Banerjee and his brother that they would be murdered if they failed to make the<br />

payment by the next day.<br />

On 1 April 2004, Biswajit went to the Diamond Harbour PS to lodge a complaint. The police told<br />

him that since the miscreants were residents of Jainagar, he should lodge his complaint at the
