Case Details:
On 29 December 2005, victim Rakhi Tokal Ghosh was married. Since then her husband and
in-laws subjected her to physical and mental torture in an attempt to secure a larger dowry.
On 23 February 2006, Ghosh’s husband and in-laws brutally beat Ghosh and broke her
backbone. Before Ghosh was about to die, her husband and in-laws hung her from the ceiling.
They then locked the house and left.
On 27 February 2006, the post mortem examination was conducted in SSKM hospital. It was
evident from the results of the examination that the police officers from the local police station
(Panchla PS) had tried to destroy the vital evidence on her body.
The Panchla PS lodged a complaint against the accused.
Ghosh’s father lodged a FIR against Ghosh’s in-laws , however the FIR has not been acted
upon by the police. Ghosh’s family receives threats about the FIR from Ghosh’s in-laws.

Case Details:
Victim Rameja Bibi, age 25, was kidnapped from her home.
Sahajan Molla lodged a complaint at the Basirhat PS, but the police only filled a General Diary
entry. Thereafter, Molla lodged several complaints at the Basirhat PS but the police officers did
not take any action.
