Case Detail:<br />
During night patrolling, the police of Belaghata PS harass the victims by taking their licenses or<br />
taxis to the police station. When the taxi drivers go to the station to get back the licenses or taxis,<br />
they receive harsh treatment from the police.<br />
On 13 th June 2006 at around 10.30pm, three local taxi drivers were taken to the Belaghata PS.<br />
When the CITU union members for that area – namely, Hare Krishna Ghosh, Biswajit Halder<br />
(Union Secretary), Subol Debnath, Gopal Ch. Pal, and others) went to the PS to ask the officers<br />
to let the drivers go, they were harassed.<br />
On 14 th June 2006 in the morning, the local taxi drivers blockaded Beleghata Main Road and the<br />
CIT Road to protest against police oppression.<br />
At around 1.00am, the police released the drivers after filing cases against them.<br />
