OC Somnath Babu, SI Swapan Saha, and ASI Anandababu seized Ichhahaque Mondal’s
tractor and demanded money without lodging any case against him. They held his tractor
without placing the matter before a court.
Ichhahaque urged the police to produce his tractor in court so that he could get it back through
legal process. No action was taken.

Case Details:
There were about 100 families residing at Rajabazar. The families generally were engaged in
occupations like pulling vans, scavenging and maid servants. In June and August 2007, the
Narkeldanga police attempted to drive the families from the area. After, the families began living
in temporary tents provided by some voluntary organizations.
In August, the Narkeldanga police raided the families temporary shelters, ransacked their
houses, and then burned their tents. The people then moved to the streets.
Later in August 2007, the police threatened to set fire homes and verbally abused the women
of the area.
