Archana Saha went to North Suburban Hospital, where Dr. Manabendra Roy x-rayed her left<br />

hand. Archana Saha took the medical report to the police station. The police again refused to<br />

help her, but a journalist from the Rajasthan Patrika Lakhan agreed to assist her.<br />

Case Detail:<br />

The victims were all tenants of Dilip Ghosh, a leaseholder of a tenanted property for 99 years. All<br />

tenants used to pay rent every month to Dilip Ghosh. Dilip Ghosh promised to transfer the lease<br />

to the tenants’ name, but died without having done so.<br />

After the death of Dilip Ghosh, his family and the tenants argued over the lease. The tenants filed<br />

a case in the Court of Learned Executive Magistrate against the family members u/s 144(2) Cr.<br />

P. C.<br />

On 22 July 2007 at around 11.00pm, Dilip Ghosh’s son Jayanta Ghosh came with three to four<br />

hundred local people to the property, intending to demolish the building with the ostensible motive<br />

of clearing garbage. The tenants protested. Some of the demolishers pulled and tore the sarees<br />

of the female tenants.<br />
