Case Details:<br />
Victim Gouri Biswas, age 38, was physically and mentally abused by her brother-in-law Nepal<br />
Biswas for several years, when she refused to permit his acquisition of some property next to<br />
her house.<br />
Gouri Biswas lodged several complaints with the police, but was ignored.<br />
On 11 July 2007 at 8.00pm, Nepal Biswas came to Gouri Biswas’s house and hit with his<br />
bicycle the chair on which she was sitting. Gouri Biswas fell down and was injured. Nepal<br />
Biswas insulted and threatened her.<br />
Gouri Biswas went to the Bishnupur PS to lodge a complaint, but the police refused to accept it.<br />

2007<br />
On 18 July 2007, Gouri Biswas again went to the Bishnupur PS, where she managed to lodge<br />
a general diary against Nepal Biswas. However, the police did not investigate the matter, and did<br />
not take any legal steps against Nepal Biswas. When they did go to Nepal Biswas’s village,<br />
they spoke with him but neither spoke with any other persons nor collected any statements.
